Changing wiper blades

[Edited to add the L405 wiper blade fitting changed at some point - so please read to the end if you have a newer model - photos on page 3.....]

The info on the fronts is readily available - Bosch AR24U & AR20U - on the dash vehicle setup menu, put it into Winter park mode & they are straight forward to change.

However, the handbook has no info on the rear wiper Rolling Eyes

It's a regular 17" one - but it's hidden right up under the spoiler just like my old L322 - however, unlike my old car, you can't just switch it off mid cycle to leave it in the vertical position. As soon as you press the start/stop button on the car it returns to it's home position Big Cry

I did eventually figure it out - you need to open the tailgate mid cycle & the wiper stops where it is - don't close it again though as it starts moving as soon as you do - but you can press the button again & stop the tailgate half way Thumbs Up

You'd think with all the gadgets LR put on the cars, one of the options would be' wiper change' which would do a similar think to the winter mode but just put them say half way up the windscreen instead and also stop the rear one in the vertical position. Having the winter mode shows that it would be easily possible. Steve

Hi all,

Found this, maybe it will help.... if it works !!

WIPERS SERVICE POSITION
Before changing a front wiper blade, the wiper
arms must be set in the ‘service’ position as
follows;
Note: The Smart Key must remain in the
vehicle while wiper blades are replaced.
1. Ensure that the ignition is turned off.
2. Turn the ignition on then off again.
3. Immediately push the wiper control down
to start the single wipe operation and turn
on the ignition again.
The wipers will move to their service
position.
4. When the new parts have been fitted, turn
the ignition off. This will return the wipers
to park position.

Hi Keith Smile So do you have the engine running whilst changing the wipers or is it the start button without pushing the brake pedal so that electrics come on but engine doesn't start? Steve

Wheres the best place to buy new blades, other than dealer?

rangerovers.net has a discussion where owners bough a wiper from PIAA or something but I asked the UK sales rep and he had no idea about fitment, said if I buy them and they work would I let him know Rolling with laughter

Mine smear when wiping rain water so need to be changed, shame I bought it 7 weeks ago, LR preparation for you.

I did the rear wiper by turning them on, then turn the ignition off when it's at the bottom of it's stroke, it then stays there...

Suppose the later ones are different though....

EDIT

Sorry, being dim.... mines a 322 Pete

Hi Pete, yes, believe they are, they've got 'clever' now and when the engine is turned off, they still go back to their normal stop position. Steve

Did they fit?

You say you got these Bosch Blades from Ebay - price is good - but did they fit? My front blades are both 24" Are you talking about a L405 or the earlier L322? Question

Post is in the L405 section Whistle

The L405 uses a standard mount Thumbs Up - unlike the L322 which uses a narrower BMW mount

Why 20"

Speedy reply but still doesn't explain why you seem to have one 24" wiper and one 20" wiper when my L405 uses two 24" blades Question

I have no idea.....

Maybe someone fitted the wrong size on your passenger side ?

Maybe it changed - mines a MY2013

I had a quick Google and can't find a definitive answer, but the LR site implies they are at least different -

Checked mine and the drivers side is 24" and passenger side 20" as per Alistair's. Mines a late 2013 car (MY 2014). If you put a 24" on my passenger side, I reckon it would just miss touching the edge of the drivers wiper and just miss the 'A' column. So, maybe someone has fitted the 24" passenger one in error or maybe to clean more of the screen as I can't see LR having modified the wiper assembly at this stage. @Hobo729 - do your wiper almost meet in the middle when stationary? Steve
