Looking for an RR advice needed

Well I'm beginning the search for a MK3 RR, it's going to be an early one due to budget, got about £11500-£12000 max to spend and want one with under 100k on, I've found a TD6 but it's only an HSE but has the Sat Nav, there arn't many Vogues around for that money unless I get petrol which I would rather avoid if I can, anything much to look out for on them as the last RR I had was a Plymouth Blue LPG'ed Vogue SE which I mostly used for green laning and I want to skip ever bothering with the P38.

Is it worth paying more for the Vogue as the HSE I've seen has the Nav and TV system.

i got a HSE 2005 model with a sat nav and [i think] most bits that a VOGUE has except for heated steering wheel/rear seats..things like tinted windows and better wheels can be brought afterwards ...best to look at a VOGUE and a HSE and compare the differences.. ... - .- -.

Leather topped dash,heated rear seats,TV,SAT NAV,Extra speakers/stereo upgrade,nicer alloys,heated steering wheel,better leather on seats and extra bits on doors etc....Vogue is just more "special" IMO. Thumbs Up If you have nothing nice to say,say nothing at all.

As much as the few extra touches with the leather would be nice on a Vogue I don't think it would be worth getting a higher milage one for the same sort of money and the main thing that was missing on some HSEs isn't on this one-the Nav and TV, I don't think I'm going to miss rear heated seats that much so will go to have a look at it, if I went petrol I woud easily get a Vogue but really would rather go the diesel route if I can.

you also need to consider the price difference between the two, if the petrol is £2k less for instance then you have that saving to spend on the extra petrol you have to buy....i think mine was the transition from BMW to FORD and they put any bits lying around in the factory on it like a harmon kardon sound system amongst other stuff... ... - .- -.

2002 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Bonatti Grey

With your budget i think you would be best looking for a decent HSE don't get me wrong you would be able to pick a TD6 vogue up for that price but won't have been looked after or could be high miles.

I wanted the vogue spec (bit snobish) and sesarched for awhile with a similar budget but ended up paying 15k for 52 plate vogue but in exellent condition with only 65k and dealer warranty etc

Slightly over priced but it was exactly what i wanted and the warranty topped it for me.

Can I ask what people are getting in real-world MPG in their RR's...?

I'm torn between the petrol or diesel, mileage will average 10k per annum, mostly city driving....

Will I really only get 12-15mpg in a petrol, and 20 mpg in a diesel...?

As the petrol models seem to be £2K cheaper, that's 380 gallons of petrol....

England 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Tonga Green

My TDV8 does 20mpg on short stop/start journeys - 25mpg + on longer motorway runs. My old TD6 did about the same.

i wonder if i would have been better of getting a petrol as most of my motoring is in town and the difference between what i get at the moment with my diesel [20mpg] and the petrols 15/17mpg is'nt that great and you get a slightly quieter engine.. ... - .- -.

As a rule (like for like) - diesel Range Rovers will always be worth more than petrols when you sell them on. You may spend more on a diesel - but the depreciation is greater on petrol variants. Any extra you spend when purchasing a diesel will be recovered when you choose to sell it.

That said however - if you are very concerned about economy figures then maybe a Range Rover (either petrol or diesel) shouldn't be your first choice of car?

Mazda RX8 owned for 4 1/2 years averaged 19.3 mpg...

Jaguar S-Type owned 18 months averaged 18.1 mpg....

And my wife runs a Smart Brabus Roadster...50-55 mpg... Laughing

I'm not too worried about MPG but would rather have the benifits of the diesel as I would be getting it chipped which from what I've read gets you 25+ MPG compared to 18 ish with the V8, quite like the look of the HSE I've seen in dark blue, the only thing that lets it down is the smaller wheels but like someone said earlier they can be changed later.

i changed my wheels MR BEE, from 18''to 20'' and it made my FFRR look completely different...didnt come with tints either so i had them done as well...as long as you have the funds and vision you can certainly make a HSE look better... ... - .- -.

the diesel RR's we are running are doing on average 10 mpg more than the petrol ones we have.

Diesel is also worth more s/h and easier to sell, and if you use it off road - not that many do - they are also less likely to cut out in wet conditions.

They are both good engine options, if you are only doing 5 or 6k a year the petrol won't make much £ difference - especialy if you buy the car cheaper.

Or go LPG route - see some of DanUK posts - but most LR main agents won't touch them - one I know of won't even have an LPG vehicle in the workshop.

Personally I prefer diesel, but others don't....

chipping a TD6 makes a massive difference - do a search on JE on the forum - loads of info, and also visit their web site... a JE chipped vehicle is sub 10secs 0-60 which is not far off TDV8 territory (8.6 ish), chip a TDV8 and thats around 7ish seconds which is almost the same as a 4.2 supercharged.

I would recognise those Italics anywhere!
How do Paulo, I had an RX8 for the very first year of launch and was a Committee Member over by.
I think we might have met on an RX8 Scotmeet run maybe?
Strange how we have ended up in the same place again!
