Price of turbos and fitting via an indie

Hoping for pointers on the above please

Whilst I sincerely hope it's smthg other than a turbo issue, I think that one has blown on my 08tdv8 ystrdy!

Driving along just fine, engine is warm, hit the kick down to pass traffic and hear a clonk / popping noise and it lost vast majority of power.
It went into limp home mode instantly, drove it back c.1mile, which it struggled with severely.

I'm now sat waiting to get it into my local indie which next opens tomorrow at 8 AM.

As I'm sat here thinking the worse, I was wondering how much this may cost?

I know ithat it could be another fault and t's all if's and but's at the moment, but assuming it is turbo issues, could you guys give me a no BS estimate in replacing via an indie please?[/i] RR Vogue TDV8 08

Check the hoses, as said as you look at the engine the one which tends to go is the one on the top right

see the post i made on repairing them

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic26843.html

if not it depends on which turbo has gone, one is a much easier job than the other, apparently. the turbos themselves are available for about £900 each. So it is really how long the mechanic thinks it will take to change, I would get him to agree a fixed price for the labour first, incase it turns out to be a complete PITA. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks guys. I know what you mean re the hoses. I had one replaced a few months ago but can't recall which one.

However, when the turbo hhise went last time the car didn't go into limp home mode. I just happened to notice the problem due to slight drop in power and black smoke.

This time there were no prior issues and no black smoke. And, due to the engine fault indicator coming on this time I am (hopefully incorrectly) assuming it's more sinister.

Thanks also re the fixed price idea too, will do! RR Vogue TDV8 08

It might depend on which hose and the size of the split? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

There is a complete silicon hose set available for the TDV8, if it is a split hose, I suggest to replace the complete set as those silicon hoses are very strong. There is a post on here about the hose sets Smile http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic32550.html MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

it might not even be split, it might have just popped off and needs pushing back on and the jubilee clip tightening up

I have 2011 4.4v8 which has just started smoking on acceleration. My indie guy says 25 hours labour which he has agreed at £1500 and if its seals then £375 or if its the turbo complete then £1500 inc vat.

^has yours had the turbo drain modification done? There was a service bulletin re smoke on acceleration which involves fitting a scavenger pipe to one of the turbos. Not sure if it would be done foc at a dealer but it is worth asking the question! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Mine was smoking under acceleration. Dealer carried out the drain mod and solved the problem.
