Rear upper tailgate swap over how to??

Hi I managed to get a new upper tailgate for my car as the current one is rusty. Is swapping it over a job I can do at home? If so how hard is it to do? Thanks

I've not done it, but from looking at it it's not especially difficult. The biggest problem is going to be supporting the old one while you remove the fixings, then supporting the new one when you refit the fixings.

I reckon you're going to want at least 2 strong mates to hold it, and i would think they're going to want hop ups or something to stand on. Unless you happen to know a basket ball team.

Thanks for the reply, I was concerned about the wiring, do you know if it's easy enough to connect back up to the loom etc? Guessing it will just be for rear camera, wiper and lock etc.

I'd have to look at RAVE, but I'm sure someone else will correct me.

I would expect there is a multiplug or two just under the rear of the head lining or behind the plastic trim at the top of the tailgate. As I said though, I would think if you can support it to remove and refit it you've got 80% of the job cracked.

Unless you have a secondhand tailgate, I suspect your biggest problem will be swapping the wiring loom over into the new tailgate.

I need to do mine and i recall reading something to this effect, if I can find it, I will post a link.
If you do crack on and replace it, a write up and some photos would be much appreciated! 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

Even that's fairly easy with some cable draw rods. I think screwfix do them for about £15.

Wickes do net curtain flex for a quid. Does the job fine.

I didn't do mine myself but I did see some of it being done. The cables are removed from the old tailgate before the tailgate is removed and then taped up on the roof. Then the tailgate is changed over, the accessories refitted (Wiper motor, camera etc) and the wires are drawn back through the new tailgate using a pull cord. Fiddly but only took the guy about 10 minutes.

Final alignment of the tailgate was done after it was fully re-assembled.
