Great British Bake off

Today, men all over Great Britain will lose control of their remotes and will be banished from the living room as the most appalling, overly effeminate, mind-rotting series since dancing on ice returns to the TV.

Tonight at 8pm, middle class women all over the country will have whisked the kids off for an early night, poured themselves a prosecco and claimed the sofa for a hour of ‘entertainment’ delivered by a puritanical ex-baker and his austere side-kick.
To save the red-blooded male out there, here are a list of alternative activities to get you through the evening.

1) Pull a late night at the office. Imagine all the extra work you can get done by 21:00, if half of all working men stayed late and did an extra half day bake-off-avoidance work, that’s the UK productivity up by around 7% - well done auntie Beeb.

2) Footie. If you are lucky enough to own a Sky multi-room package, you can swap a bunch of old women for another bunch of old women and watch the Chelsea take on Florentina tonight in the champions cup

3) Pub. Yes it’s a school night, but once upon a time before the smoking ban, and gastro-pub revolution, the local was the favoured haunt of the after-work man. Head down to the bastion that is the Kings head and sample a pint or three of London Pride.

4) Gym. You bought that subscription to the local gym in a flurry of good intention on the turn of the year, and now your expensive membership card is stuffed behind the half-filled loyalty card from Costa coffee in the back of your wallet is at best employed sporadically. Guarantee that tonight, instead of the usual wall-to-wall display of muscle, tonight it will be full of men just trying to get away from overly emotional programs about cake

5) Mow the lawn. Bit late at night to tackle the back yard, especially with the evenings starting to get dark just a little earlier. Buy yourself a man-gadget like the Fenix PD25 tactical torch mow away into the wee hours.

6) Netflix. If you haven’t caught up on some of the excellent TV coming in from the other side of the Atlantic, now surely it’s the time to fire up the iPad, subscribe to Netflix and get your fill of Breaking Bad, Suits and MadMen?

7) Can’t beat-em and join-em. If you still can’t be arsed to find an alternative, lounge on the sofa, let your manliness fritter and waist away to the tune of Wednesday night procrastination. __________________
