How good are supercharged FF off road?

Evening all,

I wondered if anyone on here who has a supercharged RR and takes it off road across wet grassy muddy fields could give me some feedback on how good they are in the slippy stuff? My concern is the size of the tyres. Given my RR's do need to go through wet grassy muddy fields a fair bit during the winter just wondering about issues in relation to the bigger tyre and hoping someone on here might be able to advise from personal experience.

Thanks

You can change the wheels for 19" which gives you a greater choice of tyres, more off road orientated.

Apart from that it's a Range-Rover, they're all excellent off road with appropriate tyres.

Went to a fireworks display 2 years ago, pi-$$ed down all day, continued to pi-$$ down during the evening and the organisers parked us all on a nice grassy field.

when walking from the car to the event I overheard 1 bloke joking about a range rover getting stuck on a wet grassy field.

literally as the last firework went off there was an unruly mad rush back to the cars with a few hundred people trying to squeeze through a narrow archway just so they could be the first out - we decided not to partake in this and just waited until the rush died down and made our way to the car normally.

En route we witnessed cars stuck in the now churned up mud/grass with one driver LITERALLY foot to the floor, wheels spinning, windows completely fogged up now distributing large sections of the field over everyone and everything around him and not moving an inch, one driver determined not to loose his momentum for anyone - even if it meant practically running people over in the process, the majority of normal family cars were severely struggling to even get moving let alone keep in a straight line, probably due the the max power = best chance mentality most people were adopting.

As I got in I remembered this video I had seen on youtube before I got the car, it was very evident to me that it would be hugely embarrassing if we got stuck in a RR and as the car was still relatively new to me I hadn't experienced this before so I decided to use the terrain response mode and engaged grass/gravel/snow and let the smallest of power get us moving.

There wasn't the slightest hint of struggling or slipping at all, traction control didn't kick in once and it felt like all I was doing was driving on a normal road in the wet, I was pleasantly surprised and even noticed a few filthy looks from people trying to push their cars as I drove past (I think they were expecting me to tow them out - something apparently the event planners charge for afterwards).

Have taken it across a few fields since (even ploughed ones) and it never gets suck.

Also had to tow a full sprinter sized van off a grassy playing field behind our house last winter - some tool was doing a house removal and got it stuck up to its axles in mud due to weather and weight of contents, some old boy tried pulling it out with something like a CRV and couldn't budge it, didn't look like it was full 4x4 from the wheel behaviour and he even had 2 wheels on a pavement.

I snapped a tow rope and multiple straps before we found something more suitable to use, again no hassle whatsoever, just used low range and Terrain Response and being in low range I didn't even need to use any power, just released brake

Now got 2 proper tow straps stored in the boot.

P.S Supercharged with 4 nearly new Nexen Rodians fitted.

To be honest any old front wheel drive vehicle is capable on wet grass and shallow mud with suitable tyres and someone who can drive. But the Range Rover is very very capable because of its sophisticated traction control system and its chassis designed for extreme off roading in terms of approach angles, ground clearance and suspension travel.

I shoot so I use mine off-road every winter. I had a 4.2S/C. It was always on road tyres. I only got it stuck once which was my fault not the car's.

Mine doesn't worry about muddy fields or lanes. Just happily gets on with it. Got treated to a day out at Eastnor and got to play in some severe conditions with just he standard tyres on. By the end we were joking, if there was a little jolt, "oops, nearly spilt my Pimms"

Many thanks guys. Very much appreciated !! I had a TDV8 with the terrain response or whatever it is called and just did not find it soo good off road as the P38. The TDV8 never got stuck but it will take some getting used to in relation to the car wanting to deal with things in it's own way.

That coupled with larger tyres was making me unsure.

Problem is going to be finding a supercharged in green! 2003 VW Golf V6 4motion
