Floor mats fitting

How do these actually work. Should the plastic piece not be stuck down to the carpet?

I'm at lost as the mats keel slipping forward.

you stick the spike into the carpet facing towards the pedals and then put the velcro pad/mat onto that. ... - .- -.

I used a knife just to pierece the top layer of the carpet and pushed it in. Was alright !
