Park Brake Warning Light / Instrument Pack

Hi folks,

Strange problem that hopefully someone will be able to come up with a solution to....

The yellow handbrake warning lamp (and a Park Brake Fault warning on the dash) is permanently on in my MY07 TDV8.

Have had it checked out by a usually very good indie and they have concluded the following:

1. The handbrake is not faulty and is working perfectly.
2. The handbrake control module is also working correctly
3. The wiring between the instrument panel and the control module is also fine
4. It therefore can only be a faulty instrument panel.

The problem is, this is seriously expensive to change! Getting on for an additional £900 including parts and labour (already spent £110 investigating). Too much for me, just to make a faulty light go out!

My question is twofold:-

a) does the above ring true to you? Is the above diagnosis definitely spot on?

b) can anybody come up with any kind of workaround to make the light and the warning go off without having to replace the entire dash / instrument pack?

Really hope you can help!

Cheers. -----------------------------------------------

i read somewhere that if you push the EPB down when you start it clears the errors....other then that maybe a battery reset. ... - .- -.

Thanks Stan.

I did try that press down EPB when starting thing but with no joy.

By a battery reset, do you just mean disconnect and reconnect the battery? If so, I know this won't change anything as the battery has been disconnected for other reasons since this fault occurred and it did not go away.

Just seems daft that a faulty warning lamp means the whole dash has to be replaced! -----------------------------------------------

No. I don't. Sadly!

I know this board is often frequented by the guys behind IIDTool.... can they confirm whether their device would be able to permanently clear this erroneous fault? And if so, are they able to put me in touch with someone in my area who has a non VIN locked one?

(Hopefully they are reading this!) -----------------------------------------------
