2014 - what did you use your IID tool for?

I bought a non BT version in 2014 and don't think I'm using it to the maximum benefit yet.

But a couple of useful examples are

* A fault code reading and then a post on the forum/ some internet research quickly resulted in me working out the need to easily DIY replace a "Pollution Sensor" for approx £25 following an HVAC air quality sensor line fault reading; &

* A "throttle actuator control system forced shutdown" fault reading due to my own 'operator error' whilst driving the car meant that the car lost all power. Having the IID tool on board meant that within seconds I was able to permanently clear the fault and resume normal service without seeking professional help Laughing

1. How did your IID tool save or help you in 2014? (and)

2. What worthwhile system or set up changes did it enable you to make to your RR?

Mine's still in the box.

Either it prevents the car going wrong just by being there, or alternatively makes me feel I've wasted money buying it by not being needed. Laughing

Monitored gearbox temperature when doing fluid and filter change.

Turned off the automatically retracting steering column.

Dropped the suspension all around by 18mm.

Cleared a gearbox switch fault that wasn't actually a fault but it put the gearbox into limp home mode.
Plugged in IID, cleared the fault and was able to drive normally and the fault hasn't occurred again.

I've used mine to scan and clear the codes on a couple of friends vehicles (Disco 3 and a 4.4 FFRR) and also monitor the coolant temp after a thermostat replacement. Great tool to keep in the car Cool 2013 FFRR Vogue SE

IId tool so far has

After 6 months liking the steering retracting I thought better save the issue when it brakes ...so now stopped this delicate part from retracting.

Clearing faults when having pressure static issues on the EAS...( which was down to the switch on the reservoir so then used to deflate system )

Raised the sound on the rear pdc.

Lowered suspension on the EAS for access and normal height ( not by much though) and raised the off road height setting ( just cos I can Mr. Green )

I got this tool really for the EAS when the RR bongs at you but in fairness its just as useful as the spanners in the tool chest!! If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Always playing with mine, it's saved a fortune in garage bills, lots of help when fault finding, calibrated the EAS, saved separate settings for off roading... tuned the CCF to my personal taste, and read and cleared faults on other peoples FF

Best tool I've bought in a long time, always worked spot on, unlike a lot of other OBD tools I've owned that tend to work when they feel like it.... Pete

I am sure I will forget some, but here you go:

2012 4.4L TDV8 & BT IID
Turned on the digital speedo (TX Craig for the tip)
Cleared minor faults
CCF file mods

2002 4.4 V8 & Standard IID
Lowered suspension on the EAS for access mode to fit the garage (Rangie has a roof rack and MTR)

Deleted faults when the front left suspension airbag started to leak 300 miles from home on a Saturday night (thus getting us home, instead of being stuck in Spain on a Sunday - this only saved us time and £££)

Calibrated the EAS before alignment

CCF file mods

All in all I think any modern Land Rover/Range Rover owner should own one of these, not only if gives you "free" extras such as the 4x4 info on some models and much more, it helps you save hundreds if not thousands when thing go south with the Rangie.

It may sound silly but without it I could not fit the 2002 Rangie in the garage and I would have been stuck in the Spanish mountains for a few days with very young kids before seeing the vehicle dropped at the LR dealership abroad where they would have charge mucho dineros for the airbag replacement.

In a nutshell: one of the best investment you can make nowadays as it pays for itself several times, probably tenfold!

Edit : here's my little set up Whistle

Hi verydisco

What is the digital speedo on the 2012 dash you've done?

Also my IIDBT has just arrived. Can the access mode height be set to a lower value?
I've got dogs and the boot could be a little lower for them.

Thanks

The digital speedo is in fact an extra indication of speed in didgits, on the side of the needle, just browse the IID tool options list

Yes you can set the height lower, everything is explained with the documents the tool came with, on their site and here too. Thumbs Up l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Not much, checked faults a couple of times, and live value of gearbox oil temperature when refilling after fluid and filter change. They do become reliable over time (if you replace enough of the bits!) Wink .
