Has anyone changed from a UK to French registration? If so, did you have to get a Certificate Of Conformity and get it translated into French (LR will do this for £100+) ... or did you find that the Certificate Of Conformity which is printed in the handbook was good enough for them to accept, although it's in English ... I've heard various stories about what's required ... any help appreciated.

When I re-registered some years ago I had to have a Certificate of Conformity in French which, as you said, was supplied by LR. However, over the last few years Préfectures have been accepting the later type V5 showing the E number as being conforming.

It varies from Préfecture to Préfecture (this is France after all )and sometimes you have to insist that they check the number against the database.

The C of C in English may be accepted if they don't go the V5 route. You can but try.

You can get, if needed, a COC from Land Rover France, it 'll cost you 185 Euro. If the car is in your name you don't need a tax certificate, you do need a french MOT (CT) not older as 6 months. As said before it depends on the Préfecture. You better go to yours and ask if the V5 with E number is good enough if not you will need a French COC

btw the translated factory COC is not valid here. You do need a few items on it for the French admin, so you have to order a French COC.

another example, tried to reg. my Aston with a Brit. V5 and factory COC. Was not accepted. Drove on for 2 years on a Brit V5 here in france. Sold the car last year to a guy from Orleans. He went with the same papers to his prefecture and got his carte grise without any problem.
I stopped trying to understand the French administration. It all depends up on the "functionaire" behind the glass.

As you can now use any Préfecture, if you get problems at one you can always try another

I've found Périgueux to be generally speaking OK although there was one guy who tended to be a miserable and awkward b......  John

I bought my FF in Italy and asked to vendor (Land Rover shop) for a COC, he says 400€ and one month.
The Registration rules in Spain allows a alternative to COC if you present a Reduced Homologation Type signed by a engineer.
I make myself the file, checked by the engineer and signed...50€.
Ask in the prefecture if you have a alternative.

Silly question but the CoC, is it not just a standard document that they change the colour/vin/engine number and model specific bits on and thats it?

Could someone who has one already not make a small fortune offering ones tailored to suit by just changing their details on a copied version...... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
