Reversing Lights - is a LED bulb available?

Hello all,

The nights are fair drawing in again, so the age old problem of reversing in the dark rears its ugly head.

I know there is a separate thread about modifying the reversing lights, but has anyone come across a straight LED bulb replacement that fits and works without errors for the reversing lights?

Thanks,

i dont think there is one that makes a great deal of difference..

most fit leds inside or stick on an auxiliary light wired to the existing reverse lights or to the tow electrics.. ... - .- -.

Yes their are error free replacement led bulbs on flea bay.
But if you need a lot of light don't bother as the bulbs aren't that bright.
I believe some of the lads on here have been experimenting with the cob leds buut don't know if they were successful.
Greg.

At this moment in time there is no plug and play remedy for the dim reversing lights, you either stick with the poor lights that are fitted, put bigger wattage bulbs in them, but they will melt Shocked Or split your lights apart and fit some led panels and glue it back together. I did manage to get the right bulb connectors to plug straight into the existing bulb holders, which made a big difference, but there is no way around cutting the lenses off to fit the new lamps Sad sorry, but on the up side it's not that difficult to do Smile just don't rush it Wink Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... thanks Paul but i do have an array of cob/smd panels to play with...i only put two panels in mine cos they fitted nicely into the 'curved well' on the light unit..

i dont need brighter lights tbh and this project was done as an experiment.. ... - .- -.

Dean, I was looking in to producing some led units, but the lamps are Land Rover only parts, as there aren't that many ffrr's out there, no one has started to produce the lights Sad This would mean that a pair of converted lamps would be around £100, and I didn't think that anyone would be interested.

There was an idea to do a service exchange system to keep the costs down, but I discovered that the lamps become brittle with age and could lead to problems of serviceability and tears before bedtime, so I sort of forgot about the whole thing Embarassed Plus it was rumored that Powerful UK were going to be producing them, but as I haven't seen anything yet, I imagine that they have run in to the same problems that I did, basically no one will make them unless you want a container full, and I don't think that there are enough ffrr's in the world to use up a container full of led reversing lamps Laughing So it's back to L/R which ramps up the price Crying or Very sad Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Thanks guys for your responses,

I feared that was the case, but just wanted to check if anything had come onto the market over the summer. 2006 FFRR TDV8 Vogue

Has anyone ever tested the reverse camera with an IR source?

Not sure if people here know or not but most cameras (unless the camera has an IR filter over the lens, and even then still works just less effective) will detect IR light. I made a nightvision attachment that slips over my riflescope and has a camera positioned where your eye would be and the image is output to a small screen - when turned on the screen is as black as it would be if looked through by the naked eye BUT when I turn on my IR illuminator it's as if someone is shining a flashlight and the picture becomes as bright as daytime.

IR light is almost totally invisible to the naked eye (my illuminator is VERY powerful but all you can see is a very faint red glow when switched on, if it works a IR source could be fitted somewhere, maybe a strip up under the spoiler on a relay switched by the reversing lights.

Anyone tried this?

i have a separate infra red light for my cctv cameras and its works very well so i cant see why it wont work for the FF's camera but if you wire one of these up you might as well wire up an additional light.. ... - .- -.
