Engine failsafe prog

I've had this pop up along with restricted performance since I had been messing about for a couple of hours trying to get the dvd to play. I guess the battery was getting too low with all the doors open and screens on but now I have charged it it is still showing the fault. Is there a procedure I could try to clear it before I resort to a garage?? It's a 2003 Vogue 4.4V8 petrol.
Many thanks
d2t

make sure the battery is 100% ok then after you've re-fitted it , turn the steering wheel fully left ,then fully right.. ... - .- -.

Obviously I do this with the engine running?

I'm taking the opportunity to change the battery as it is not really taking charge, will leaving it disconnected for a while help clear stuff?

Lots of info in the WIKI

http://www.fullfatrr.com/wiki/Main_Page

Low voltage will certainly cause your symptoms....

Length of time the battery is off doesn't make any difference after the first 20mins or so... Pete

Not having much luck: Battery has made a huge difference to starting so I'm pleased I changed it but I still have the EFP message and reduced performance. I guess I need to find somewhere that can diagnose the problem or get myself an IID tool.
Can anyone recommend somewhere near Ashford Kent who may be able to help or should I just bite the bullet and order a tool? I assume the tool will tell me the exact fault or component that needs replacing?
Thanks

Plugged in my new GAP reader and shows up 0x485 throttle adaption spring test failed. Fitted another throttle body but it threw the same fault. MAF and throttle pedal seem OK, could it be the plug or harness that runs to the throttle body? How would I check those?

Plug to throttle body has very fine contacts, check they are clean and not bent, does it run OK?? does it rev up and down, does the throttle make the engine rev??

Did you clear all faults and try it?? Pete

Plug and pins seem OK. I have sprayed them with contact cleaner also. The car just idles very badly with the fault. There is no apparent response from the throttle. At this point if I unplug the MAF sensor the car stalls but if I restart it straight away it runs fine, I assume this is some kind of limp home mode but proves surely that the pedal and throttle body physically work.
If I clear the code while the car is running it runs even more roughly and does try and respond to the pedal but fails and then pops the failsafe prog and code up very quickly.
It's baffling me, the fault appeared out of nowhere: all I had done was move the car into the shed to gather the dvd player to work!

Car all sorted now. Found a really good local auto-electrician who cam and had a look. He checked the connections and continuity of the engine loom, all OK. Disconnected the ECU for about 45 mins, reconnected and the car was/is ok now.
Conclusion: Running the battery right down and replacing it had 'spiked' the ECU. May never be an issue again but if it is then it's new ECU hardware time.
Thanks for all the suggestions above, very pleased to have it running again.

That will be upper and/or lower rear hub bushes...

Genuine about £40 each, not too long a job for a garage with a decent puller, or you can DIY it... see the WIKI.... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Pete
