just a quick one. again

hi

You need the above and then measure each wheel in turn, centre of wheel to underside of wheel arch.
Side to side should be the same.
Front to rear should be about 15mm low at rear compared to front.

take into an Indie for a diagnostic and if the sensors are working ok it may just need a calibration like mine has just had. the differences in my heights were the same in all the levels ( access, road and off road)

these must be measured on a completely flat surface tony....if they were then you need to get an iidtool to set it up properly. ... - .- -.

i can do most things but when it comes to technical stuff like that im useless. ile ask about for someone who has one. would the landrover dealers take my eyes out to recalibrate it

Also note you may only get to within 10mm side to side as this is apparently an acceptable tolerance (well, with the IID tool)

Also easier to refer to as:

FR, FL, RR, RL (left (L) and right (R) is as looking at the car from the rear to the front) .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

As Joe said they are totally acceptable, tolerance is + or - 9mm, you could possibly get them slightly closer but it's really not worth paying someone to do that, you will know if a height sensor gives up, the wheel is either all the way up or all the way down, they don't get progressively worse they just stop working.... Pete

LR would want about an hour's labour for that so probably not the end of the world, but it's only basic maths. With an IID tool you can see what the current settings are and once you've measured it you add or subtract from the values on IID and re-program the car to those values.

Worth checking the height sensors too. Semi-seized, or not giving accurate readings will make weird things happen. 25 odd quid each so again, not the end of the world. When I had one go on my 07 I just replaced all 4. Placebo effect possibly but it felt a bit crisper in the corners after that.

my indie charged me £50 , this was an 1/2 diagnostic on his automate to confirm everything was working ok and that included my return visit to actually do the calibration which took about 40 mins ..

before I took the car in I checked my own airbags for leaks with soapy solution in a trigger bottle. I did a visual check on my sensors , all looked clean and in working order. the diagnostic check confirmed good volt readings from the sensors.

if your compressor is not continually running and the measured error is the same difference in the different height settings you could well be lucky and just need a recalibrate

even a new sensor is fairly cheap .

Is the garage you called a main dealer / specialist that understands the car & air suspension ?

hes not a dealer but word ishe knows his stuff. he too has a vogue and a garage around our way takes all his landrovers to him as he works on them and has all the tools and software. i know that means nothin. another landrover specialist has just quoted me £80 plus vat to plug it in his machine to check it

I think he's talking about the rods which fit onto the height sensors, bit difficult to bend them as they are plastic.

If your going to keep the FF then buy yourself an IID or similar, what you need to do is easy to do and just involves pressing buttons, the IID will pay for itself very quickly, even if you don't do the work yourself you are protecting yourself by not getting ripped off by garages for other repairs it will need.... Pete
