The SC alloys are unmarked on the rims/faces but the inside of the dishes behind the spokes never came up clean (baked in a film of grime, tar, brake dust, old stick on tape from wheel balances etc).

Took front passenger wheel off today (the fronts are always the worst) and used a tip I got off the Disco3 forum several years ago now.... A spray foam can of Mr Muscle oven cleaner. Cleaned the wheel fully with car shampoo, hosed it, then sprayed Mr M on the inner dish leaving it 20 minutes, using elbow grease to then work it in with a bug and tar remover type sponge. The result was amazing but still some marks were left so, hosed all off with cold water and repeated the Mr Muscle process. This time used a combo of an Autoglym alloy wheel (pounding type) brush and the bug and tar remover sponge (instead of a sponge, microfibre cloths are very effective for this too).

Finally, shampooed the wheel with a wash mitt before polishing the inside and outside of the wheel and applying a sealant wax.

Many will not agree with using Mr Muscle but I've done it on cars when necessary for a number of years now and it has never damaged the wheel coating. I had thought I would end up getting the wheels fully refurb'd if this did not work but the wheel looks as good as new inside and out.

Updated pIctures of the before and after of the front driver's side wheel when off car (the first 2 pictures were after the wheel had been been cleaned with shampoo, to no effect). The one of the wheel on the car is an 'after' picture of the front passenger side which was the first one I did:

Have put the wheel back on now so will do a before and after on the next one to get done later in the week.

I used this on a set of old 20 inch wheels I had taken of the car with years of break dust caked on. Sprayed this stuff on neat and let it sink in for 5 mins and with only a small amount of brushing the years of caked on brake dust was completely gone. It does say you can use it diluted which would be more economical for weekly washes etc. Oh and as a bonus the stuff smells really nice, not that it helps in regard to cleaning. But this stuff is by far the best wheel cleaner I have ever used without being detrimental to the paint of lacquer finish.

Before and after as requested by Bellini.

The front driver's side wheel done today was a pig of a job. The wheel face has obviously had a cosmetic refurb done at some stage (a decent one mind) but the dreaded paint/lacquer overspray over dirty inner rims was present and the wheel required a solid couple of hours elbow grease and repeat applications of Mr Muscle.

Front 2 down 2 to go on another day or days. The wheels have come up a treat though

Got to say the results seem to speak for themselves. The wheels have really came up nice.
