Clunk or Clonk

Has anyone experienced a loud Clunk after turning off the engine. MY2012 Vogue 4.4.
I turn off the engine, everything is quiet, then a couple of seconds later, I get a loud clunk from under the car near the transfer box. It sounds a bit like a solinoid letting go or cutting in.

I think the electric parking brake is already on by the time I turn the engine off, at least the symbol is showing on the dash.

Only noise mine makes is the EGR valves cleaning themselves sort of a squeaky scraping noise.

No clonks. Or clunks for that matter..

Can't think of anything around the trans box which would make that noise there is a solenoid on the box but pretty sure that doesn't move except when you are selecting low ratio. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Oh well, it's going into the dealers on Monday, hopefully they will sort it out, I will let you know what it is when they fix it.

Car left with dealer today, they tell me the clunk is coming from the transfer box, which will need stripping down. As it is an independent garage who run their own warranty, they want to try and claim off LR as the car is only done 30K miles Big Cry
I hope I am not going to regret not buying a LR approved car.

Is the garage its at a main dealer LR garage and the one where you bought the car? Or an independent dealer / garage.

All approved used LR cars from MD Come with a LR approved used warranty, this is run by Car care plan, for Land Rover and is very comprehensive. As far as I know I haven't heard of any approved used cars being sold without the LR warranty, older ones get a different warranty (over 5 y.o) but still Land Rover run by CCP. They shouldn't be sold as approved used with 3rd party warranties provided by anyone else!

It should be pretty straight forwards, problem diagnosis, warranty claim.

If it is less than 30 days since you bought the car then I have a sneaking suspicion that it may be the dealerships have some liability themselves for any problems which occur in the first month or so, which is why problems reported after collecting cars can seem to get pushed on for a bit until they are able to claim off the CCP warranty. This is just from my experience not saying it is true....

I would clarify what warranty you have, who is the provider, and why they aren't just making the claim against it for the repair.

Beware though diagnosis is at your cost if there is no fault found then you could be up for the labour of removing the box and stripping it, which is about 600. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

If it is less than 6 months since you bought it the supplying dealer is liable for any defects that arise as it is assumed that they were present at the point of sale unless the dealer can prove otherwise. Dealers hate this but that is the law and if you bought the car within the last 6 months you have a strong case for having the supplying dealer fix it. This is a right in addition to any warranty you may have.

The law is S19(14) of the Consumer Rights Act 2015

I bought the car in September this year from an independent dealer specialising in 4x4, all Land Rovers on their forecourt.
It is their own 12 month parts and labour warranty.
The car was first registered in December 2011, so it is now a year out of manufactures warranty, so I can't see they can claim from Land Rover just because it has only covered 30K miles. I just hope they don't drag their feet in getting the repair done.

Sorry, my bad, misread your post, thought you said it was an approved used.

As above, the supplying dealer should fix this for you no questions asked. If you want to avoid more pain in the future, then it is possible to buy a LR warranty from your local Md. if it has a full LR service history then it should not be a problem There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Just had a call from my independent dealer to say my car is with Land Rover, they are trying to claim at least part payment as they feel the transfer box to fail at 30K miles is premature. As I mentioned in an earlier post, my car is covered on their one year parts and labour warranty. So having to fit a £2500 transfer box, they tell me is not in their best interest. They assured me it will get done, just trying to work out who is going to pay for it.
I think I am going to recommend anyone wanting to buy a £37,000 Range Rover, buys a LR recommended car with its 2 year warranty. Thumbs Up

I think that would be the response if you had asked on here before you bought the car...

Did you know you can buy a genuine JLR warranty from the dealer without having to buy the FF from them, you pay for an inspection to insure it is free from faults and then pay them money, you can then renew it annually

They even have different levels of cover... Thumbs Up Pete

It's very unusual for a transfer box to fail completely, they will occasionally
Spring a leak, but never really heard of one of the Magna Steyr boxes failing.

It will be interesting to see what land rover say re what needs fixing.

Mine is out of the disco at the moment (same box) as the car needed another new clutch and flywheel, and as the box has had a leak for a little while they are fixing it while it's out, split it apart and reseal it with mastic!

As Pete says above get a car care plan/LR warranty. No hassles then. Might even be able to get one through the dealer who is looking at it now. And they pay out well. So far this year the disco has had:

New Ac condenser and dryer
New passenger side rear door mechanism
New clutch and flywheel

All for the princely sum of £600. So I'm quids in Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I did ask, when I bought the car if I could pay for a comprehensive warranty, but they convinced me that their own in house warranty was sound, time will tell. I must admit at the same time as the transfer box was playing up so was the suspension compressor. When I bought the car the dealer assured me that because of the distance between my home and their location, I could use my local independent garage for warranty repairs, so long as my garage talked to them and agreed the cost first.
So my garage informed the dealer that the filter in the compressor was blocked and they where concerned that the drier was decanting into the filter. Also having enquirerd of Land Rover, if a service kit was available, they where told that for a 2012 model the only cure was a new compressor. The dealer would not agree to the cost of a new compressor and insisted I take the car back to them for inspection, as they feel it only needs a new filter. Anyway my garage did a temporary old time fix of drilling a small hole through the filter, this allowed me to get the car to lower from extended mode.
As I was going to have to take it back to the dealer for the clunk from the transfer box I agreed to let them inspect it, when I got the car back to them they told me they have compressor filters in stock and they would replace the drilled filter.
Does anyone know if it is right, that the 2012 model compressor is not serviceable and needs a new unit.
If this is true I am going to ask them to change the compressor.
