Diagnostic help needed, front drive train..

Hi All

First post here, i have a 2002 4.4, now 140k miles which i have owned for three years.

Used as my daily driver for the commute to work.

So far has been OK, with the normal run of niggles (new rad, new hoses, new expansion tank, new abs sensor, new height sensors, repaired radio, repaired compressor, new sus airbag, new backing plate for brakes, new heater resistor, replacement tv unit, ongoing bush replacement etc etc). Mostly diagnosed by lurking here!

I am working through some more niggles and need some help..

I have a circular rubbing / howling noise (at the front i think ) most noticeable at 35-50 mph. When crawling along sometimes it feels like something is catching and releasing. Starts about 0.5 mile from start. Is not related to turning or power on / coasting. Is related to road speed.

My garage says is probably the diff. They are not FF experts tho and wont commit.

Could be related to a violent wobble when braking, which is intermittent.

Almost ready to change disks and service front calipers to see if that helps..

Any ideas? Or even a good garage near portsmouth that could diagnose?

Thanks in advance
David

Hi .
If your getting a wobble when braking then that would most likely be down to your disks been warped.
Get them changed and clean up your callipers and all should be good Thumbs Up 2007 tdv8 se ,stornaway grey

Thanks for the replies,

yep its got to be worth trying the brakes first. Not a huge investment.

But I suspect I maybe focusing there because changing the diff is real PIA?
