I am trying to diagnose what my gearbox fault maybe, so i am hoping my story is familiar to some of you.
I was stuck in slow traffic for about 30 minutes and then i was on the motorway. At some point, someone pulled across me and i had to brake hard and then changed lane and accelerated. At that moment, something happened and the “gearbox fault” flashed up. The car was stuck in a lower gear and wouldn’t change up. Not sure which gear it was but I was doing 60mph and the revs were around 5000rpm. I travelled like this for about a mile and then pulled over. I switched the engine off, locked it, and then unlcocked and switched the engine back on. From then on, everything was normal and I continued on my way. No warnings lights at all.

My question is what has just happened, and more importantly what is the best way forward? Sell the car quickly or are there any service or remedial works to carry out? You help will be much appreciated.

Best thing to do would be to get a diagnostic tool connected and the fault codes read. Sounds like the gearbox went into 'limp home' mode which means it detected a problem and went into a safe mode.

A fault code will have been logged and this should help. 2005 Range Rover L322 TD6

Thanks Zigzag. So a fault code will have been logged even though there is no fault warning on the dash at present? Is this an indication of a future problem with the gearbox or just a one off event?

it could be something like a height or abs sensor come loose.....as said above , get the codes read... ... - .- -.
