Coolant leak front near transmission clooler.

Just found this today. I haven't removed the plastic belly pan to fully inspect. That's for tomorrow and daylight. Just want to know what I should be aware that may be the common source. Seems to be a few ounces every 100 miles at this point.

There seems to be two drips coming down the fan cowl and then some dampness at the bottom... No joints above the two drips...

There are lots of joints on the gearbox oil cooler manifold, also that temp sender you can see in the pic, with the wires coming out, is sealed with an "O" ring...

Good luck Pete

Thanks. Sounds like the problem areas I have read about. Will get in there today.

OK I think I found it. I'm seeing a seepage at the lower retaining clip. I must assume it gets worse under driving conditions from the amount I cleaned up. This little amount took 10 min to show after it reached normal temp from startup.
Does this hose have an O ring that may cause this leak? If not is this hose identical to the BMW X5 one? Thanks.

Haven't got a clue if they are X5 ones...

Yes there is an "O" ring in there, they are a funny size though, thicker than the large selection I have amassed over the years....

None of the hoses are very expensive over here so most folk just change them... appreciate it may be way different over there.... Pete

Thanks. $80 $USD. Just my luck its the one that goes up the right side of engine (as you look under bonnet) and is part of the main return. Seems to be a bit different than the X5 from the pics on realoem. Back to Google and research.

If the plastic ends are still very black and haven't gone dark brown then the plastic is OK, see if you can find an "O" ring to fit... Thumbs Up Pete

Still very black. Good to know. Whole hose assembly looks good but for the leaky end. Mr cheapo needs to find and try the O ring first.

Murphy strikes again! Since I had it all drained I decided to replace the right vanos solenoid check valve. All went well even the grinding down of a standard 32mm socket wall to fit. Even found an O ring in my miscellaneous stuff that fit and found the retaining clip that went flying into the subframe. Hose wouldn't fit snug. Upon inspection I found a lip on the t-cooler thermostat broke. So now i wait for Amazon to deliver a new one. For some reason this part is not identical to the X5 part. I was also shocked that the dealer wanted $150 for my $60 part.

Just a FYI. It was driving me nuts that this thermostat was not cross referencing with the BMW X5. Finally found it is the same as the X5 from 2001 to 2007. Could of had this back together 2 days ago had I know. Banging Head

17107559966. This is the BMW part number from realoem.com. No source was listing this as crossing for the RR until I found FCPeuro.com. I felt it should but since the connecting hoses differ from the X5 I needed to be sure. The part came today along with some more Murphy DNA. The whole reason this got started was due to the leaking o ring on the bottom connection to the thermostat. The new thermostat includes a connector in place that could be spliced into the old hose and a new O ring installed on this connector. Great I can change the new O ring onto the old hose except yes the new O ring is pinched in 2 places. Hopefully the slightly thicker O ring I will be using will work.

The O ring I obtained was a fraction thicker but brute force eventually got it home. Howard
