FBH Guru - French Mike.

Hi guys!

Could somebody Pm me the mail address to Mr. "Guru" French Mike?

I live in (cold) Norway and the FBH is often used in winter time... I noticed a few weeks ago that the water temp gauge didīt reach normal (vertical) level. I know that this is not a main job for the FBH Wink , but in the search of solving this problem, I found out that the FBH didīt work!?! And searching on internet, I found that French Mike has a lot of experience on this Webasto Thermotop C used in RR (among others).

Looking forward to hear from you!

Thx

JLS

Temp gauge problem is more likely a thermostat issue (either main thermostat or EGR thermostat).

French Mike lurks on the Rover 75 forums if I remember correctly. .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

Thx for quick response, Joe90! I will dive into the Rover 75 forum for a search for Mike Very Happy

Regarding the temp problem I thought it was the main stat also. But, after a bit of struggling to reach this son of a... I saw that it looked normal. Confirmed with the classic boling-test. It opened as it should, around 88-90dgrs C. After a bit of a shock there, I found the cooling routing in the WS.maual. I then discovered the second stat in the EGR, so I will renew that one as well.

X fingers.... Thumbs Up

(I have also learned that there is a stat in the oil/watercooler for the g.box, but that circuit is not routed through the radiator, sp that one I leave as it is...)

Have you considered the gauge may be reading correctly and the engine is being over-cooled.
Diesels are notorious for running cool even in warm weather, enough cooling is often provided by airflow over the cylinder block. I would think this may well be the case in Norway.
I would be inclined initially to remove the cooling fan and see what happens, it certainly won't over-heat.
You could also consider blanking off part of the radiator, old fashioned idea but it works.

As Joe90 advised have a look at the thermostats. On my TD6 I had the same issue, car never getting up to temp. On advise from this forum I took off the EGR thermostat which is easy enough and blew through it. It was stuck open so got a new one and problem solved. Even got a slight improvement on fuel consumption so should pay or itself in a couple of years. A tip, I picked up a very cheap EGR Thermostat for a BMW which had a different end for the hose connection, luckily the ends are interchangeable so was able to swap over

Thx, Wayneg. I bought the EGR-stat at a BMW-dealer and saw that the end was different after buying it... Nice to have confirmed that its possible to swap the ends. I havenīt had time to investigate this yet Thumbs Up

Cool I'll have a look at this when I replace my lower hose! Is it as simple as if you can blow through it at all then it's dying?

If it's purpose is to cool down exhaust gasses would it possibly also highlight a stuck egr valve if it's causing he temp to stay cold as otherwise t would be adding heat to the cooling system? FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

You pull the big C clip thing out to release the end, there is a big spring behind so be careful. A fair bit of pressure to get the replacement end to seat against the spring before you can replace the C Clip. The other thing is if you watch the Video he makes it look simple to remove the hose to get at the bolt at the back, Not quite the same on the TD6. If I did it again I would have a jubilee clamp ready and cut of the spring type clamp to keep things simple. Still very straight forward though.
Kingpleb, if its stuck open yes you can simply blow through to check. If you think the egr is stuck why not fit a blanking kit and be done with it. 2007 TDV8 VSE
