Largest tyre size to put on 20" rims?

What's the largest size in profile that can be used as I hate thin tyres that make your teeth rattle over British roads, can't understand people with cigarette width paper tyres it's a 4x4 for Gods sake not a cayenne Wink _____________________________________________________

I think this has been asked many times but I think it's 275 45 20 which are often on merc ML's but don't quote me.

it is 275 45 20 - these are the closest to std OEM. Most 275/45 are slightly less in diameter by a few mm.

However, my General Grabbers were measured when new with a tape around the circumference - they are exactly the same as the Scorpions that came off. The tread depth on the Grabbers was significantly more at 11mm when new hence there being no difference. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

not sure re 275/55 - as it is wider and taller - there may be a clearance issue on the struts. 255/55 are OK AFAIK as many have fitted the 255/55/20 off the L405 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Fit 19's or 18's. They're fab.

Not all FFs can go smaller than 20 inch wheels, like my 5.0 for example.

BlackPerth, thanks for that, good to know when I need to update my shoes on the 5.0 Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

285/50R20 gives an outer tyre diameter (according to good old fashioned maths) of 650.8mm
My tyres have an outer diameter of 680.8 so on radius you'll have a spare 15mm to play with. Mine are also 305's so you'll have 20mm extra space in the arches.

I'd go for the 285/50R20 Thumbs Up Sidewall is king Thumbs Up

275/55/20 on mine, speedo being out is really a myth, maybe by a midge's ball hair but that's it!might be tempted to part with them too, not had a bad winter for a while so they're sat in the garage.....
