Strange Whine and Engine Fault Code

Hi All,

As one problem is solved, another one opens...

Having finally put the RR back together after clearing a blocked sunroof drain and drying out the cabin, I jumped in last night and noticed the engine sounded unusual. It's a very gentle, soft whine, almost like the sound of air escaping. It worsens as I accelerate and when the engine is working/revving. I would say performance is unaffected though.

I've run a fault scan and it's returned the following:

I know the EGR was already blocked by the previous owner (netsonicsteve on this forum).

I'm not very technical on engines so for this one I think it will be a dealer job, but would be good to know what it could be...?

Many thanks,

If you have the egr blanked, I would say that that code is related to the egr solenoid not being present. It will send a signal to the ecu within a certain +ve voltage or resistance range. As its not present then it's getting no signal which is probably below the level its expecting hence the negative deviation reading.

As for the whine, it's probably a rotating part, maybe alternator bearing, or something on the front end where the belt runs an idler or tensioner maybe. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
