DSP Amp Mended

Hi All,

All the sound packed up in the car months ago and I quickly found that one of the main pins on the DSP amp was broken off through corrosion.

Finally got round to fixing it today.

Pulled the broken pin out of the plug with a small easy out.

Got the amp out and on the bench. Cleaned up the hole where the pin was broken off with a drill and small needle file on a dremel. Measured hole and pin. Then my oppo made up a new brass pin on the lathe with a small dia at one end to fit inside the hole left by the broken off pin in the socket on the amp and correct diameter the other end for the plug on the loom.

Tinned the hole with solder. Tinned the small dia on the pin with solder. Then heated the pin with a soldering iron and introduced it into the hole to solder the 2 parts together.

All back together and car has sounds again. Thumbs Up

One annoying niggle that I noticed well before all the sound stopping and indeed just after re-fitting an upgraded TV tuner is that the DSP will be off every time the car is started and needs to be manually turned on, plus the user presets are also lost. Mad

Any ideas where to start with that one? I checked and the DSP once working again didn't have any fault codes.

The TV tuner doesn't seem to be working and showing mute when it's set to TV so I might need to get that back to Baris for a check over.

Do you have the analog, hybrid or digital tuner ? (Just checking in case its analog in which case it won't work, full stop.) .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

Hi Joe,

Yep, could have run a bypass wire from the back of the socket then teed into the loom, but then that wouldn't have been as neat.

The tuner is the original analogue, updated to digital by Baris a while back.

Just in case anyone sees this post and wants to have a go at mending a DSP amp, I have one that is yours FOC for the price of posting

The main power pin snapped off due to corrosion. The rest of the pins are ok but corroded green.

Before the power went it sounded fine but occasionally lost speakers to the left.

I keep intending to dump it, but if it helps someone out happy to post
