It's sometimes not that easy to tell if the leak is coming from the oil cooler or the turbo pipe.

The oil runs down the bell housing in both cases. You really need to pull the inlet manifold etc off so you can look directly down on the cooler. If it's failed, then it'll be surrounded by oil.

i've at last had a look at the leak and now need expert opinions on whether its the 'o' ring thats leaking and pushing the oil up [arrowed] or the oil cooler above it, what do you think?

It will only take your mechanic son half an hour to change the Orings, so what’s to loose?, change them and see if it stops leaking would be my choice.
How did it come to your attention?
Oily patch on drive/ garage floor or burning oil smell?
If you think it is still leaking after changing them you have still got the Warranty to get the cooler/ gaskets looked at.

it looks very much like top gasket is leaking, and I would replace both once you are at it.

and once you have air intake plenum off may as well clean it inside. easy but very messy job. Thumbs Up

@mike, my thoughts are the same , change the 'o' rings and see if the leak comes back but looking at ninos pics it looks like the oil gasket is the culprit ..
it was the smoke and oil burning smell that brought it to my attention..

@nino, as its going in for the leak under warranty ,i'll let the dealer sort the oil cooler problem and i'll have a bash at the 'o' rings.. ... - .- -.

Nino, not only are you a very skilled mechanic, but you are a brilliant photographer 👍👍

Stan, If you can’t get it booked in until end of March, then I would go ahead and change the O rings , even as Nino says it looks likely to be the gaskets/ cooler.

Tell him it is payback for his lift from the airport 😁😁. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

How big a job is it to remove the inlet manifold and change the oil/water heat exchanger?

Is there a wiki or manual that explains it in detail?
