Guys,
Thank you all for this post and information. My RR had an oil in the coolant and smell of oil from the heater. Local garage quoted £400 for labour to replace oil cooler. Price for cooler was much more than price from Dan (Duckworth parts). I have bought cooler and gaskets from Dan and today replaced gaskets only, as cooler seems to be ok. Gaskets between two cooler parts were split and everything around was covered in oil. O-rings were also replaced. Job itself it's easy, from start to finish took me about 3.5-4 hours, but I have spent more than an hour cleaning manifold from sludge.
Thank you all for the info and especially Nino for the instructions.
Very glad that I have joined this forum Smile

Engine oil. The gearbox oil cooler is oil to air.

Just got mine back from garage, 4th attempt at fixing the oil leak, so far they have replaced the oil cooler, something else and now the turbo hose...still smells of burning oil but maybe residual from the leak..luckily still under warranty...

and they lent me a brand new E-Pace, nice car but not a patch on the Range Rover.... I need more help than most...sorry !!

Hello!

My TDV8 Which has disgust done 71000 has just started leaking oil on the driveway and I can smell oil when hot.

I live in Torquay Devon. Can anyone recommend a good independent down here that could help?

Thanks in advance!

I just noticed some oil drips on the last remaining patches of snow today, took a look and feel down the back of the engine, sure enough i have an oily hose end, ordered the o rings up , hopefully, i have time to do it before the weekend.
As always, this forum is priceless when looking for answers, well done everyone..brilliant help!!

Not sure about Torquay but Causeway 4x4 are right on Jct 23 of the M5 only about a 35 mins drive if you cant find anyone closer

Cheers
Mike

I now have this problem too, smoke coming from under the bonnet and stinks through the air vents (no smell with air recirculation on).

Got my viton O-rings today so went out for a look when I got in from work to try and locate the pipe. Engine obviously far too hot to do anything with and i wasn't able to locate the pipe I'm looking for with confidence. Latex gloves got a good covering of out while I was having a feel around and also might have oil around what I think may be the oil cooler. I will order the two gaskets and replace them.

I would like to remove the intake for better access to both, is this straight forward enough? Ive had a look for a workshop manual in the Wiki but cant find one for my year (2011 4.4 TDV8). Can anyone point me in the direction for a download of the workshop manual or a "how to" for the intake (I have searched) Very Happy 2011 RR Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

If I get down to the oil cooler will it be obvious if its cracked/knackered? Im hoping its just my oil feed pipes that need the o-rings swapping and its just residual oil elsewhere. 2011 RR Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

It's not that obvious that the cooler is allowing coolant and oil to mix, unless oil starts to show in the coolant header tank.

Normally, the turbo feed pipes leak onto the bell housing.....and then drips onto the driveway. If it's the cooler, then the V will have oil in it, which will eventually fill up, then start running down the bell housing.

If you have a puddle of oil in the centre of the V under the cooler, then the gaskets will have given up or worst case, the oil cooler has cracked..

Gaskets are cheap, oil cooler not cheap.

Mike

Cheers, ill get the gaskets from Dan and do it in one go, assuming i can get it all apart. From a quick visual there looks to be a fair bit of stuff to remove/pipes/electrics in the way. 2011 RR Autobiography 4.4 TDV8
