The oil cooler sits on top of the oil filter housing (gasket 1) then the oil filter housing sits on top of the EGR cooler (gasket 2). Remove the oil filter housing and oil cooler as a unit then disassemble.

Further to the oil issues. LR has refused to cover this as just outside their warranty, and inchecape says that this is a manufacturers defect, so also will not touch it. LR quoted £1800 for the repair, Will have the local indi have a look next. The odd thing is following the tips earlier in the thread, I do not see oil from the cooler or the top union, I brought the o-rings mentioned to do it my self, but as its not from the top, i assume it must be from the Turbo end of the connection?
Not visible from underneath without major stripping. Any advice on this one.
Thanks Chris

Thanks Dr Rob, I have it booked in at Simply serviced in Stanway, I have had all other work done there. Will be interesting to see if they come back with the same issue. LR are quoting Turbo drain mod as the issue, yet I've not seen leaks from this as topic on the forum. Will keep you posted incase I've come across a new issue.

Several 4.4tdv8 owners have had low down oil leak problems from the oil drain tube connection after it has been disturbed by being used to drain the engine oil rather than sucking it out from the top.
It might be worth a look.

+1 for a lower, as yet unidentified oil leak
.
Mine:
~ has not had the turbo drain
~ has had the oil cooler done
~ has had the upper rear o-rings done

My leak is around the NS turbo area.

Let us know what the Indy says!

. Cheers, Greg

I had a leak around the NS turbo.

Dealer fixed under warranty a couple of years back. I think it was leaking from the oil feed Banjo (if there is one....), it a while back so its a hazy recollection. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

TDV8 4.4 Oil Leak

I replaced the two O rings on the feed pipe to the oil cooler some time ago, but still had a leak, so I took it to my local Indy (Whites in Edinburgh) who replaced both oil cooler gaskets. They took 3.7 manhours and charged £300 including VAT. This might be a useful benchmark price for others who have the same problem, and I guess it is a whole lot less than a stealer would charge. 2011 Vogue TDV8 4.4

I noticed some oil on the engine tray back in Oct post a service, cleaned it up and assumed it was from changing engine oil or similar.

then totally forgot about it and we have a gravel driveway so havent seen any marks.

Anyway, misses came home today and said Engine oil low message had come up. Had a look and the engine bash tray underneath is covered in dripping engine oil, seems the whole tray. service was approx 1k miles ago. Anyway will pull the tray off tomorrow and have a look.

from this post, which took me a while to read the 19 pages, it seems these leaks relate to the oil coming down the back of the engine, where as mine i would suggest is from the front and running on the tray to the back. Car is parked very slightly nose up.

Plan is to remove tray and check drain plugs to start, i believe there are two? is that correct? then see if oil path can be traced back to find leak. if coming from top i will take a look at the cooler and the filter itself.

Note comments on the filter housing being plastic. its it possible its split on retightening and causing this? Cheers

James

ref: https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic35830...t=oil+leak

and the 2nd pic on first post. my oil leak is not quite as bad, but is further forward, the only bit on the exhause pipe is what has come off the underbody tray and blown back rather than dripped down onto it. Cheers

James

The main drain is by unclipping a hose and the secondary being a plug further back.

The filter cover is plastic and is fitted with an o-ring. The cover might not be properly tightened.
