trying to fit height sensor - torx bolts corroded

went to install new rear height sensor today, the two torx bolts holding the sensor to the chassis are so corroded i cant get anything in them to remove them.

the bottom bolt also just spins and the other side is just a round bolt so cant get hold of it to stop it spinning

who has done this and any tips?

ive attached a pic of my torx bolts. (yes i snapped my old sensor off to try to get better access lol )

PS if anyone in cambs fancies doing this for some cash give me a shout. pretty much had enough time wasted on it by me

the sensor is not reusable so either cut/leaver or smash it off
you should then have enough to get mole grips on the torx bolts after the sensor is removed Thumbs Up

hmm not much room to play with in there at all, tried with a hammer and screwdriver and it wasnt budging to be honest
if more room then yes no problem, its difficult enough getting a hand to this area with mine, even with the wheel off

i do suppose a dremel would get in there just about, maybe. guess ill have to wait till next weekend now unless anyone gets back to me regarding mobile mechanic wise to do it for me during the day while im at work.

On bolts like that I normally cut a slot in the head and use a screwdriver, or hammer in a small socket flat bit that is a bit wider than the torx shape V8 or else ...

thanks would never of thought to grind in a flat screwdriver head onto them to try get them out, will try that if i get time, thanks again

Buy a set of these, Erwin nut removers (other makes available)

If you can get a socket on it then these work every time.... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

cheers pete, not sure theres room to get a hammer to whack on of those on, but if the first idea doesnt work ive got something else to try at least!

If you have a hacksaw, or better still, an angle grinder, then simply cut off the heads of the bolts, or grind off the tops of the bolts, and slide off the old sensor, spray with penetrating oil, wait, (cup of tea) and as mentioned, grip the bolts, with mole grips, and gently rock back and forth. Maybe even hit the bolt shaft with a hammer to break the rust seal. - you are going to need to buy new bolts. Can only guess, they are m6 bolts, and are easy to search for say 'm6 torx/socket head bolts 35mm length' on eBay, and for about £3 you will have a handful. Steel, or stainless steel.
