Water in boot lid

Hopefully this is a really easy one to solve.

When I open the top part of the tailgate after it's been raining water pours out of it all over the parcel shelf. I'm sure this is something trivial like a blocked drain but I can't see where it is.

I've only had the car for a couple of weeks and it's my first FFRR so I'm still learning my way around it.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Andy '07 Supercharged in black with drug dealer tinted windows

I get this too... I once had leaf backing up the channel the tailgate hinges on. Clearing that helped. Other place of course that you can get water is from a leaking rear wash wipe as it goes through the centre pin of the wiper arm and backs up in the trim of the upper tailgate.

From your description it sound more like rain. I still get it from time to time. I suspect it is the volume of water running off the roof rearwards is to much for the drain so it eventually pools on the tailgate trim. Opening the tailgate slowly seems to help as the torrent then becomes a trickle and the splash is avoided.

Keen to hear if any one has any other soloutions none the less. 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

My old 4.4 (04) didn't have this problem but any rain and my 4.2 SC has torrents of water cascading down the channels either side of the rear window. It doesn't go onto the parcel shelf but I don't understand why on one it was a little dribble, on another it is Niagra.

I thought this was a design fault.
Both mine have done it and when you have the light interior it's a real PITA as the parcel shelf gets stained. Sad

Out of interest are those of use getting the problem parking on the flat or on a slope?

My Drive slopes and generally the bonnet is upward and the tailgate at the lower end of the slope. I thought it would have been the volume of water for that reason. 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

Thanks guys, my drive is flat so it's not a slope thing. It's good though that it's not just me though, I just need to be really careful opening the boot in future '07 Supercharged in black with drug dealer tinted windows

Not a slope thing in my experience, you just have to lift it up slowly.
It seems to get trapped somewhere and doesn't come out until the glass is lifted.

Yes, agreed, I have a flat drive too and it seems the only solution is to open slowly and carefully Big Cry

The water that drips into the boot when the tailgate is opened comes from the edge of the glass, it seems to build up at both sides and sits there until you open the tailgate then it pours into the boot.

I wonder if a bead of silicon down each edge would cure it
