Loud noise coming from under the bonnet, left hand side

Hi, I was parked, ticking over, when the car started making a right racket, so loud it made the family evacuat the car in a hurry, it attracted the attention of the staff from a local fast fit garage. I sat there of course, trying to convince everyone, there was nothing to panic about Whistle The noise stopped when I turned the engine off and did not return on restarting.

Could this have anything to do with the fuel burning heater? I have never used it. Or something to do with the DPF having a clear out?

Ian

Sounds like your FBH kicked in there Bud, they stuff them deep in the wheel arch area behind the glovebox, and they draw their breath through the gill on the passenger side...... mine has developed a whistle when its going, did make me jump when it first kicked in Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Don't you have to activate the FBH though, like time it to come on, on a frosty morning. I mean the engine had warmed up. It did frighten the life out of everybody in and around the car though Rolling with laughter

They come on by them selves when it's cold to speed up the warm up of the engine / heating system... I didn't think that mine was working, and then it got cold and I couldn't stop it from whistling Very Happy Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

woman came into a shop I was in asking if anyone had a range rover, I said yes me is it smoking, she said yes. I said don't worry it's just the fuel burner heater. She said I thought it was on fire. Shops only about 4 miles away, so I guess it decided to kick in with the outside temp being a bit low. Don't remember it smoking too bad last year, so may need a good clean. Thumbs Up

they come in at 6deg or below on startup to raise temp to 40deg and then maintain it at 40deg which is why the make alot of noise initially and then it subdues once 40deg has been reached. Cheers

Yes , works just like on a desiesel I have a T91 remote and it comes on automatically a 6ºC and under to help speed up heating . It's very unusual to have one specced on a Supercharger but there are one or two around and my car was one of JLR own and has absolutely every option fitted Very Happy 2008 MY Supercharged
