Handbrake Click When Depressing Brake Pedal

Everytime I step on the brake pedal when stationary, the parking brake lever on the centre console lets out a small click, most likely to enable it

I'm just (abit) OCD when it comes to things like this and Due to the fact I know it clicks, I can hear it every time..... No biggie but a tad annoying

Anyone else have this, or is it just my car? 2015 SDV8 Autobiography - Black, Cirrus, 22" Style 707 Wheels

Is it not the solenoid that allows the gear selector to move (only when the brake peddle is depressed)? Rather than the handbrake?

Hey Craig

As far as I'm aware, definitely sounds like the handbrake. When I put my hand on the handbrake switch when stepping on brake pedal, I can feel a click too.... It's only a very small click, but enough for me to notice .....

I'll have another go later to confirm I can feel a click on the handbrake

Cheers

I've not noticed any clicking - there may well be a solenoid operating, but don't think it should be making a noise

It appears this could be he solenoid as Craig mentioned, but either way there is still quite an audible Click, both heard and felt through the handbrake and more so the rotary gear selector.....

You have to really be listening out for it to hear it tho (music off, car stationary, quiet outside)

I really need to get in another L405 to compare it for myself 2015 SDV8 Autobiography - Black, Cirrus, 22" Style 707 Wheels

To be honest when i tested a couple i didnt , but i think you have to live with these to notice this as i dont always notice it on my sport but i know its always there. All you need to do is go to a dealer start one up and put your foot on the brake you will soon know. Perhaps a owner on here could do the test? Its a click that allows the gearleaver or selector to move once the brake pedal is presssed.

I'm gonna try get into a few at a local

My Australian delivered car does not click when I put my foot on the brake pedal.
Plus if the car is already in gear there should be no solenoid activation through the gear selector for the selector safety stop solenoid if the car has already been started with your foot on the brake pedal or the solenoid will slowly burn out by over heating if it comes on every time you put your foot on the brake.
I would see JLR service to have it looked at.

I have noticed (as in felt, not heard) the disengaging of the blocking pin (or whatever it is) when depressing the brake pedal on both my 2006 and 2010 SCs. Can't ever remember hearing it but that could be because :
a. old ears don't hear very well (my wife complains bitterly about that Wink )
b. the music is usually on in my car PUMPING OUT THE BEATS BABY Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Next time I drive the car (could be a while unfortunately) I will keep an ear out as well Smile

Not that it helps you with your L405 but hey it's the best I can do Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
