EGRs 3.6 TDV8 - replace before or after long drive

I'm in a slight quandary now. I have noticed twice over the past few months the following codes appear.

P02A8-00 (6Cool Unknown
P045C-00 (6Cool Unknown
P02A0-00 (6Cool Unknown

I cleared them all but the only one to reappear was P045C-00.

From searching around it appears this may be a sign the EGRs are on the way out (138000 miles give or take). Now I will be replacing them but as stated I'm in a quandary.

I'm currently in Zimbabwe (flying back tomorrow) and arriving on Wednesday morning. But I have to drive up to Inverness for Monday through Wednesday for my grandfathers funeral. I have officially got the rest of the week off so could at a push replace both EGRs if I can get all the bits in (ordering from here will be fun). But if a snag is met then it'll be a pain.

When I took it for a test drive and monitored the requested and live values they both appeared to be behaving the same way. I.e. nothing obvious jumped out at me. Although the values never went to 0%. I think, from memory, it was requesting 0% but only got 5%.

What are peoples thoughts on doing the drive as is and replacing the valves ASAP when I get back?

Does anyone have any suggestions for some additional testing that might be useful in order to make the decision. Obviously given the situation I can't really break down.

Hire cars / other transport is kind of out because my dog is being returned by my parents who have been looking after her whilst I've been out of the country. Ed

Knowing your luck lately mate, I'd do it before, if you have to hire a car just get it valeted before you return it to get the dog mess out.... Thumbs Up

Sorry to hear about your grandfather... Pete

But this would simply be a simple blast up the motorways rather than lanes through Wales. Wink Ed

Stick a bottle of EGR cleaner in the tank before you leave, you may find by the time you get up to Inverness and back they are cleaned up and not sticking at 5% 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

Just landed back in the UK. Given I wasn't able to order parts we're going to have a play and hire a Jag XE for the drive up.

Not a RR but 1/4 of the price and don't need to be 30 to hire it. Might as well have something nice to drive up in. Will give it a damn good clean before returning it.

Then I'll get around to replacing the valves. Ed
