FFRR 4.2 Supercharged - Reliability MY07 over MY05/06

Hi all,

I'm currently in the market of buying a FFRR 4.2 supercharged, and was wondering whether the MY07 cars are significantly better than the MY05/06 cars, or whether the general rule of thumb would be to just buy on condition/service history? The MY07 cars have a slightly nicer interior IMHO, but coming from an 1983 110 practically anything feels luxurious:)

My main concern with buying a 4.2 SC is to keep main mechanical failures and unexpected big bills to a minimum, as probably every owner does. Hence, I wonder whether it's worth going for the MY07 car (further developed/improved?) or whether one can happily settle with a clean, low milage MY05/MY06.

I think the choice is 07 better interior(higher tax), mechanical reliability is the same I would say, they are certainly perceived to be more reliable than 3.6 TDV8's. Regards

05/06 SC's were screwed together under BMW ownership using BMW technologies/work ethics Whistle
07my> were built under Ford ownership Whistle

Its safe to say the rust will usually be significantly worse in an 07> model. The interior trim is NOT screwed together as well BUT! IMHO is a nicer place to sit than the pre facelift cars! Seats are much better in the pre facelift cars but look better in the facelift cars!

Swings & roundabouts sir Thumbs Up

Just over 12 months ago I was asking exactly the same question.

I was always told to go for the electronic handbrake versions (’07 onwards I think) over the earlier models, but I’m certainly no expert. After seeing and trying quite a few, I just bit the bullet and went for the most ‘honest’ 07 SC I could find… Never looked back since…although that’s probably tempting fate Confused . It’s worth considering that if you’re worried about the bills, a 4.2sc might not be the best choice. I’ve not had many bills to be fair, but when they come you certainly know about it. For what it’s worth though, the pros far outweigh the cons in my humble opinion. Thumbs Up Life is what happens while youre making other plans.

Thanks for the replies all! Budget wise, I should be able to afford a nice MY07 car, but ideally (as with my other cars) I'd like to find an enthusiast's car that has been taken care of very well. It's good to know that both pre-07 and post-07 are similar re key mechanicals and electrics (i.e. the 'big' bills'), so I guess I don't have to discount a good '05 for a shabby '07, if you know what I mean:) Ideally keep some change in my pocket for short-term fixing as well!
