Guys
Thanks so much for all the positive feedback. The people on this site have ALWAYS done me proud and I respect each and everyone.
Looks like the old girl is going on hols then!

Thank you. Just needed someone to make a decision for me! Lol.

I'll sort breakdown cover and as long as I get reception and can get onto this site in the event of a breakdown I'm sure any issue can be solved.

Thanks so much.

Gosh some pessimistic people on here. If it's been well looked after, and I'm guessing it has because he's a member here, then what's the problem?

6 months after buying mine off Gary I'd given it a service at its normal interval (month or two before), jumped in the car with two others, 2 days later we were in Verdon. Two weeks later we were back in the UK after 2500 miles. Despite being mechanically minded all I took was a set of jump leads and an air compressor, ironically used them on the minibus but not the FF.

Only thing to cause any concern at all was, I went through a set of brake pads in the two weeks Shocked
Massive grin on my face though Mr. Green

Fundamentally if the vehicles well looked after then anything that is likely to go wrong is going to happen and you won't be prepared for it anyway! I "popped"down to my parents in Wales to drop off a rifle with my father, ironically had almost all my tools in the boot. 4h down, 12h back... air suspension went. Couldn't have been much more prepared but made sod all difference. Ed

I once needed new rear pads on a P38 when I was in Nerja, Spain.
I went into a local quick fit type garage. He didn't have them in stock,
He made a couple of phone calls, drove it on to the ramp, started taking the rear wheels off, and within 20 mins, a lady arrived in a van carrying a box of Ferodo pads, made in Chapel en le firth, and within the hour it was fixed.

Always Cary a few tools. You never know. Generally if I can fix it with a screwdriver I will have a go.

Go for it. What's the worst that can happen! At the end of the day if you have cover then you can just rely on that and enjoy the ride. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks for the confidence boost guys. Decision made to take it. Quick splash of fuel to Folkstone then fill up in France I take it.
Gonna have a shop round for breakdown cover. Axa is £150, and will give it a quick service and look over. I know I have a squeeky bush on rear near side which I ignored last year. Has just started again. Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!

check with your bank account, several accounts now have built in european rescue as either standard or an add on for an annual fee. Im with Barclays and they have RAC european cover.

also check with RAC and AA as well as they can be reasonable.

Red pennant cover can be good too, that is the caravan club scheme though you have to pay to join the club the cover can include personal cover too as well as breakdown, and you don't necessarily need a caravan in tow. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Glad you made the decision to take it. Driving in Europe is a breath of fresh air compared to the UK.

850 miles is a doddle in these cars. Its just over 1300 miles from my house here in Poland to my parents house in UK except for the 90 mins stop on the ferry my car has no issues doing tha run in one go.

Just check all the fluids before you set off, splash enough fuel in to get you over the water and enjoy Smile 2008 TDV8

First thing to say is that La Franc and some other surrounding towns are very nice - my Dad lives nearby.

Its also worth the 40 (or so) minute drive to Girona, it is a thoroughly beautiful medieval town / city and in the old part (centre) there are loads of great bars and restaurants and the Cathedral is very old and very impressive.

If I were you, I would fly to Girona (very cheap Ryanair flights in the Summer) and then hire a car - nothing to do with the good / bad points of taking the RR - it will be quicker, cheaper and no worries.

I was in the area a few weeks ago and hired a car for 5 days for about £30 !

If you do decide to drive, I did the trip a few years ago, and it was an easy and enjoyable drive Very Happy

Check out the Nationwide FlexPlus account. For £10 per month you get UK and European breakdown cover, I don't see any vehicle age limit but worth checking.

There are also a host of other benefits including family travel insurance and other bits too; the interest paid on the first £2500 almost pays the £10 fee. It's a no brainier in my opinion. 2006 4.2 SC

Take care all
