L322 td6 radiator removal help please.

Good evening guys, I'm in need of assistance on the removal of my radiator as there is a pin hole leak. There is vast amounts of information on the the v8 model's but nothing on the td6. Which I found strange.
Changing a radiator has never bothered me in any other cars. But the m57 has the viscous fan in the way. I've never messed about with a viscous fan before. I've also read the nuts are opposite threads ??
I just need direction's on how to remove the fan nut and what 2 tools are required. Big Cry

Help please.

From RAVE it looks like it's the same as the V8. Since you're in Hertfordshire, don't waste your money buying a fan tool. PM me, come over at the weekend with your new coolant and we can get it changed.

Otherwise, get the fan removal tool from Halfords for about £13, put it on the nut, get a big hammer and give it good hard smack to the right as you look from the front of the car. Don't just tap it, CLACK IT ONE and it will come loose. [/code]

I found it easier with two spanners, one to hold the pulley the other to undo the fan nut. The Halfords ones are "not quite" long enough either. (the good whack method does also work, though)

Yes, remember the nut on the vicious fan is left hand thread, so undo clockwise.

In terms of removal, iirc:

0. remove undertray
1. Drain radiator
2. Remove hoses & other connectors
3. Undo fan shroud (gives better access)
4. Remove fan (the fun bit)
5. Remove shroud
6. remove radiator

Consider not putting the fan back, just not needed on TD6 (as long as your air con fans are working OK) .

Just to add - I found it necessary to remove the undertray to disconnect the gearbox rad. I guess the TDs don't have one?

I have the under tray off as I steam cleaned all the underside. I will be underbody sealing and waxoyling. Just because I love to tart her up. Laughing

Sorry forgot to remove undertray (have added now)

The air con rad will contribute to main rad cooling. On a really hot day in traffic I hear it kick in, but then I have the air con running so you might expect it.

Never seen the needle waiver from 12 o'clock whilst running without the vicious fan (but have changed main and egr thermostats too!) .

I made sure to that the coolant clips undone before I emptied the coolant.
Drop the coolant
Coolant pipes off
Undone the electric plugs just incase I shafed it on anything.
Undo the plastic nuts that keep the rad sterdy

Once that is done you need to remove it he red bleed valve on bottom of rad as you know space is tight as a n... Censored
With that done.
Now move the rad towards the cowling and is ready to be pulled out. Now at this stage you will need 2 pair of hands as I did.
1 to keep the cowling pushed towards the engine and other to pull rad up. As you pull up the you need to bend the plastic side bracket of cowling to get the rad bleeder out.
I was not bothered about further damage to old rad as I pulled out. But to instal it's reverse principal.

It can be done, as I had done it.
I did not put coolant I n but just added water with a few flushes.
Topped up with water n bled the system just to make sure there were no more leaks.

Finally done a correct antifreeze mix.
