Do I (should I) have a secondary air injection pump?

Whilst looking at fuses in engine compartment fuse box, I noticed a 'missing' relay! Further research and it turns out its for the 'secondary air injection pump' (SAI) - but I can't find the pump or associated pipe work. Should it be there? Has it been removed? (and if so what damage can it cause by being removed?). Perhaps another reason for poor starting when hot, or O2 sensor fault.

Thank

According to this it's not fitted or was originally meant to be fitted but removed:

Secondary Air Injection is only there to inject air into the exhaust on cold start up to aid CAT warm up times. In other words it's there purely for emissions. It can be ditched, I've done it before on another track car.
I actually re-instated on another car to bring it back to factory spec, the new pump on that would only run for one minute on start-up...it's a lot extra stuff to go wrong for very little gain!

The fact that I can't find 'anything' - pump or pipe work - seems to suggest it's more than a 'let's just remove the relay' by someone, does suggest it maybe wasn't there in the first place. I just happened to spot it on my relentless search for 'little problems' with my vehicle that are just taking the edge off ownership Smile
