Part numbers - oil cooler water pipes and thermostat

Hi all,

Having had the gearbox rebuilt on my FF last year it still holds gears after a long run on a hot day, so my next step is to replace the radiator, water pipes to the oil cooler, and the thermostat down there - the oil cooler was replaced when the box was rebuilt.

Whilst its quite easy to find the radiator part number, I cannot find anywhere the definite part numbers or description for the radiator-to-cooler water pipes, nor for the thermostat. Does anyone know what they are please?

Also, what effect would simply removing the thermostat from the oil cooler have? Does the gearbox, like the engine, work better when the oil is lukewarm on a cold day?

Thanks,
Matt NW060

There are three pipes that run to the thermostat manifold that the oil cooler is fixed to, the thermostat is used to warm up the oil first, then cool it if it gets too hot, it allows water to flow different ways at different times dependent on heat, removing it will result in the three pipes fighting each other and probably won't work....

When I changed all mine the thermostat was broken and was just warming the gearbox oil, not cooling it, yours maybe the same...

I found the three pipes were OK, I just changed the thermostat and manifold....

Best mod you can do to help your FF is fit one of these....

HI Pete, thanks for the reply.
I'll give that main thermostat a go, as I know the engine does run hotter in the FF due to emissions? So on LPG it shouldn't be a problem anyway as it practically emits daisies during the MOT Laughing

I see what you are getting at re. the gearbox thermostat and manifold - however, as the lot has to be drained to change them, I might as well change the 3 pipes too for the cost of them vs the hassle of doing it again if it doesn't work!

Please do you have a link to the parts you bought when you did the job?

Thanks,
Matt NW060
