Strange noise on unlocking...

This started a few days ago, if the car has gone to sleep after the 16 minute shutdown then this noise happens for a few seconds after unlocking and waking the car up again, does it with the door open or closed, it is triggered by unlocking... Coming from the lower centre console..

I'm thinking its some HVAC flap trying to open or move in some way, I can't make it happen, tried all different settings, HVAC is working fine, nothing else not working...

Anyone any ideas before I start ripping it apart...?????

 Pete

Sounds like something is slipping over a cog pete, similar to when a window mechanism goes.
I think your on the right track with the flaps.
good luck with the fix.
now you've done it, we'll all be having it. Laughing
greg. Thumbs Up

Love one Paul, when you price yours sensibly at £3000 I'll have it... Whistle

Greg, yep sounds just like it but why does a flap shut or open when the car goes to sleep and move again when it opens but not when you use the HVAC... Pete

I've always noticed on mine when I open the door, there's always a noise like the heater motor, doesn't last for long.
can't be more specific as it's always done it, so I thought it's just an rr thing. I wonder if it's a weather thing like shuts the flaps when shut down, to prevent damp air getting in, thenwhen awakened , weather dependant, opens again.
on some old previous cars I had, I used to manually put the heater to hot and shut all flaps and vents, it helped stop icing up in a morning on the inside. Of course technology has moved on, so it may do it automatically.
Just a thought.
hope you get it sorted as it sounds annoying.
Greg.

That is the motor that controls the HVAC flaps, remove the panel and it's the round unit with the white writing on, rev,I've the unit and you and reseat it, issue shout go away after that mine did.

Matt, you were spot on with which motor it was, I unplugged it and it stopped the noise, I then thought I'd try all the different settings on the HVAC panel and everything works as it should so what does this thing do... any ideas....???? Pete

Mine has always made a noise like that after it has been standing for a while, only for not so long (a couple of seconds). I just assumed it was something to do with the onboard computer firing up. It has been doing it for years with no ill-effect, No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

Rear Face Level temperature blend motor

I am aware that the original post is quite old but why start again?
My 2003 L322 TD6 starting making the same "clacking" noise from the heater assembly area.
I tracked it down (with help) to the "Rear Face Level Temperature Blend Motor"
See item 5 on page 82-14 of the L322 workshop manual.
With the power feed to that motor removed there is no noise.
I then reconnected the power and unclipped the motor from the heater housing and held that in my hand after opening the car which had been closed for some time.
The motor appeared to run smoothly and certainly there was no noise.
Then I tried to load up the motor by gripping the drive end end firmly in my hand to see if that load would bring about the noise. It did not.
Right now the motor is back in place but power feed removed resulting in no temperature control to rear face level heater.
Has anyone found that by replacing the motor that the problem goes away or is there something more sinister going on inside the heater assembly housing?
