Dealer fitted different sized rear wheels

In my last post I asked for opinions on whether to go with Contis or Pirellis for a pending rear tyre pair replacement as a result of getting a screw stuck in one. This was shortly before I was about to drive the car to the French Alps on holiday.

I decided on the Pirellis but it wasn't until I got to my destination that I noticed the dealer had put 255/55R20 tyres on the back whereas the existing Contis on the front were 255/50R20.

Is this a problem? One reader suggested on my previous thread that it could stress the centre diff. Would the dealer have just made a mistake or don't they consider this a problem? Admittedly we did discuss swapping the front Contis soon as they are also wearing on the edges but that wasn't to be done until I put the winters back on in October.

255/55R20 doesn't seem to be a standard L322 tyre according to various websites. Indeed, Pirelli's own website doesn't suggest the size for my vehicle, only recommending 255/55R19 instead...

I have an upcoming appointment to replace the front brake pads so I can get them to swap to the correct tyres if necessary.

Could it be that Pirelli don't do 255/50R20 any more so the fitted 255/55R20 instead? Is that OK for the L322? Won't the dealer have to recalibrate the speedometer?

If 255/55R20 aren't a problem I'll just have them put on the front as well.

As you can might notice I'm not that clued up on the intricaies of tyre choice so I appreciate any advice you can offer. Thanks Thumbs Up 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 automatic (LHD), Santorini Black

could be a genuine mistake by the dealer...i would get the proper size fitted when you next visit [255 50 20] ..

your insurance company might not pay out if you have odd size tyres fitted and of course having the '55' profile will affect the speedo reading.. ... - .- -.

It's the different size front to rear i'd be worried about.

55's are standard on the L405 - it's 50's for the L322 - so both are Range Rover sizes, but any reputable dealer should have checked.

Different sizes front to back will cause a problem with the centre diff so make them the same ASAP. I'm surprised it hasn't already thrown ABS sensor faults too.
I have 275/5520 and my speedo is spot-on although the odometer will be reading low. However my speedo's market specs are the most optimistic whereas your's might be less optimistic and therefore your speedo may read slow.

Can the dealer adjust the speedo and odometer accordingly? Is that something they can do? 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 automatic (LHD), Santorini Black

either put the correct size on the back 255/50 or the new size on the front 255/55

lots of folks seem to be using the 55 ratio size now, but personally I would get the right size changed over by the dealer. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Got the car back today. The dealer put two 255/50R20 Pirrelis on the rear so all is good again. They didn't charge for the labour Thumbs Up 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 automatic (LHD), Santorini Black
