United Kingdom 2019 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Carpathian Grey

Just to let you that I met with weegie this morning, our forum member who resides in the Dordogne. He kindly used his diagnostic tool to check up on the fault codes on my car. It appears that I have the P040D error which is believed to relate to a temperature sensor fault. Weegie and myself had a discussion over the phone with my local Indy in Preston and he supported this view and advised that there were no issues with using the vehicle but to take it steady with the van on the back in the high temps we're experiencing here.

Thanks to all responders and particularly weegie for his assistance this morning. Another example of the huge benefits that this forum can offer.

Update.......
Now moved onto our 3rd site in the Vendee. and suffered the same fault 3 times on route with the added complication that I now have an amber 'engine malfunction' light now showing.
Hey ho!

Sorry to hear that, Mark. Does the engine light stay on when restarted? John

Hi John,

Yes, I'm afraid it does.

The manual only lists information about a red warning symbol, not an amber one that's actually displayed

I'd call your travel insurance and have the car repatriated.

A bit of inconvenience, but better doing it at a time to suit rather than getting stuck at the side of a motorway.

Mark, I believe it is still related to the diagnosed fault re the sensor. The problem appears to be that it has now progressed and is showing the engine warning light. Sorry you are now a bit too far away to confirm.

Alistair's suggestion may well be the safest way to go. Speak to your independent.

One further thought, does it still show when you are not towing the van? John

Like Weegie I believe that the amber engine warning light warns of a problem with the emissions equipment, consistent with the faulty sensor diagnosis. Depending on how far, if at all, you want to drive, I see there is a LR franchise dealer Land Rover Nantes at Saint Harblain, just west of Nantes, presumably not too far away. There is a LR franchise dealer locator for France, but it seems to need a postcode, so you could try that in case there is somewhere nearer. That might provide a more convenient solution than getting transportered home, albeit potentially costly.

My experience of emergency repairs on holiday abroad is based only on motorcycles, but it is pretty positive, garages were always keen to try to help. Good luck!

Apart from your indy, you might get advice on "is it safe to drive" from LR Customer Service Centre 0870 5000 500. I don't know whether that works from France, but if not someone could call on your behalf. Or you could phone LR Assistance, they gave me and a recovery contractor some advice even though I had not had LRA cover for several years. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Folowing on CS there is a LR dealer at Olonne sur Mer in the Vendée which is probably your nearest should you want to try.

Thanks for the replies.

My plan is as follows:

I plan to speak to my Indy tomorrow and depending on what he says I'll also take a trip to the LR dealer near Nantes. It's only an hour from where I'm staying.

Get it to the dealer, get it plugged in, get the sensor changed
Get them to check the turbo change over valve and the small turbo hoses for splits.

If it starts and runs then I would speak to red pennant and let them know the situation, and that you may require an alternative vehicle. They are geared up for caravanists so should be able to get you a replacement tow car and if needed get the car to the dealer on a flat bed to prevent further damage.

if it can't be fixed at the dealer in a timely manner, then get it repatriated to your local dealer. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Update...

Visited the LR dealership in Olonne Sur Mer today. The chief technicion plugged in their diagnostic kit and 30 mins later reported that he'd cleared the Amber engine malfunction light and that the 'restricted performance' issue was very likely to be a faulty sensor. He added that there was no issue in driving the car as it is. The diagnosis was undertaken free of charge.

I plan to drive the car over next 2 days, if the restricted performance starts to occur whilst driving solo I'm going back to them with the fault active and asking them to replace the sensor.

Car washed on return to make me feel better
