2013 RR sports needs entire engine replaced .help

hi guys .iam very unfortunate to hear from essex land rover that my 2013 range rover sport might need the entire engine replaced which would cost me £17000 .iam in shocked of my life right now especially i have only purchased the car 1 year and half ago from a land rover dealer in cardiff .the car has done 50000 miles mainly on the motor way .has had all services done from land rover dealer. and i would have never imagined a luxury ,high end car like this would need a whole engine replace in such a short time.i was on the motor way all of the sudden the battery light appeared on the dash board.engine was still running but no power steering and i had to physically pulled the steering wheel to steer the car to pull up on the hard shoulder .switched the engine off then tried to restart it and its gone dead ever since .and that was it .i am now facing a £17000 bill to replace the engine.has it ever happened to any one before ? and any suggestion to what i can do .and what rights do i have with the dealer where i bought the car from ? i would really appreciate your comments and advises .please help thanks so much in advance guys Bow down

as pete says you are on the wrong forum.

But that said it sounds like this is caused by the bearing shells in the bottom end of the engine. If it is, this is an issue which is know to Landrover and affects disco, RR and RR Sport 3.0 diesels.

I would be kicking up a fuss with LR

Have a look here:

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic37970.html

And here

http://www.disco4.com/forum/topic146897.html

Is covered by a technical bulletin SSM71816 - Crankshaft/Crankshaft Bearing Concerns - TDv6 Diesel Engine
- they are aware of the problem and there should possibly be some assistance from LR rather than the dealer. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks pete for letting me know .iam a newbee on here Smile
Thanks jones really aprreciate your comments . assume if its the bearing shells would it cost alot of money to replace or repair it ? And would LR likely to assist or support me on that issue since my warranty just ran out 3 months ago. Thanks jone

TBH I don't know, but it will be your best shot.

PM one of the LR customer services guys via the RRsport forum LR customer services section. And state your case with as much detail as possible. Threaten to escalate etc.

As it is a known issue and they know what causes it then There may be, and I mean may be some help.

The ones I have seen on the forums have been in warranty, and have had new engines fitted, but whether it is repairable I don't know. It usually results in a siezed engine caused by a snapped crank shaft.

have a read of the thread from the disco site there are some interesting points made on there. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

If you purchased the car in a JLR dealer (should have a 24 or 36 month warranty) but if you bought it from a JLR dealer with a FSH and since your ownership you have kept up the FSH and you can prove a history of Previous JLR ownership??? Then I would expect JLR would pay at least 50% of your bill with you sir... They are usually happy to help long term owners that purchase cars from their dealer network...

But, if you bought the car from Joe blogs car sales and it had a shocking history then I don't hold out much hope sir...
