discoloured winscreen scuttle plate

Does anyone have any ideas or products I can use to bring my now grey scuttle plate back to its original colour.

This stuff works, I know from experience, you do it once and it lasts for years, did my old XC70 with it and it is superb....

Lots of trim polishes etc work , they just don't last long.... Thumbs Up

A new panel is about £180 AFAIR... Pete

I have had success with "Black Chrome" (from Halfords) used on my wing mirror support covers. Takes a few coats, but then suddenly it all goes black! Need to tackle the scuttle too, tempted to remove it to get better access to the nooks and crannies. .

Tim, apart from the 4 obvious clips there are 10 clips at the top just below the screen that are moulded into the panel, when they changed my screen the guy used a proper trim removal tool but every single one snapped.... I guess at the age of ours they are getting very brittle....

They (Autoglass) changed it FOC but put the old one back while I waited for it, it whistled and vibrated like hell until it was changed...

So, if I were you I'd leave it alone... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Pete

I don't remember any problems when I removed prior to windscreen change a few years ago. Maybe I was lucky? I do remember the popper clips flying all over the drive (not easy to find on 30mm gravel - I probably have half a socket set out there somewhere Laughing ). There is also the "goo" strip at the bottom of the screen to contend with, and also can't remember if the wiper blocks have to come off (the ones you need a removal tool for) .

That stuff that Haylands mentioned (Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer) is surperb, just done the wife's Mini (OK, a trail before doing my RR) great stuff & easy to use. Buy the bigger bottle though, once you start.............

Will be interesting to see how long it lasts. Current: 2015 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

Try peanut butter-(smooth not chunky)

I have done several sun bleached plastic parts over recent years- it does work

Or groundnut oil works a treat too! Just don't use a lot and it turns faded plastic back to black and lasts ages longer than the stuff you buy from halfrauds and alike! Probably not as good as the gtech stuff but at a fraction of the cost it's worth trying!

Strawberry jam works as well, so does olive oil... lasts as long as peanut butter and groundnut oil as well.... Rolling Eyes

Or use the proper stuff and do it once... Thumbs Up Pete
