Deployable side steps

A few questions, if I may.
I don't have these but I am considering them (seat bolster is just beginning to crease)

Does anyone have them?

Do you like them?

Do they still need to be removed to jack the vehicle?

Do you need to have mud flaps fitted?

They are far more discrete than those on the 322. Meaning they fold away nicely and discretely...

Very expensive dealer fit option though! I know at launch our local Parts Manager was telling me they were £3500+ and they had to hold 3+ sets in stock to keep JLR happy!!! Shocked

Shocked As a factory fit option they are £850 i think! Whistle

I've seen them on fleabay for £1800 (new OEM parts). Not sure what fitting would cost though.

Thought they were dealer fit only according to the web

On the new one I've added them the Demo JLR provided so I could try them and I ticked the box Thumbs Up

Yes, I thought they were dealer only as well. The wife has them on her L405 and they are very good even on access mode. You can lock them in the out position to allow jacking.

We have both front and rear mud flaps on the car as well.

They were already on a stock car that we got but I wouldn't have spec'd them originally. But now we have them wouldn't be without.

Thumbs Up

+1. I had them fitted on my L322 and have them on my L405 too. Once you have them you won't do without.
I couldn't find a button on my L405 to lock or unlock the sidesteps. Can you tell me where it is located?
Apparently the sidesteps have jacking points so no need to lock them out as on the L322.

The switch is in the panel with the remote boot release just to the right of the steering column below the steering wheel at hip height sitting in the seat.

Starting this year it can be a factory option, technically a port option but still much cheaper than the dealer

Thanks, found it! Mine's on the left of the steering wheel being LHD.

Can you lock the steps both in the out and in position (preventing the steps from deploying when opening the door)?
My disabled father finds it easier to get in the car without the steps with the suspension in access mode.

The button seems to be used to stop them coming out (switch them off) and also to override the forced inactivity due to terrain response setting. So, yes you can stop them coming out but I don't think you can have one side off and one side on. There is a seperate manual for the steps. Should be in the dealer pack or you can access it on LRTopix.

I've found references on Topix but not a manual, as such, that tells me how to disable the Deployable Side Steps (e.g. for wheel changing). After speaking to my dealer and after some trial and error, the following seems to work consistently:

1. TO LOCK STEPS OUT

➢ Do not start engine
➢ Press/release start/stop button to switch on ignition
➢ Do not start engine
➢ Depress/hold step button (driver’s lower console) for 5 seconds
➢ Warning light in switch illuminates and stays on
➢ Repeat to cancel
➢ Warning light in switch goes out
➢ Normal operation thereafter

2. TO LOCK STEPS IN

➢ Do not start engine
➢ Depress/hold step button (driver’s lower console) for 5 seconds
➢ Press/release start/stop button to switch on ignition
➢ Do not start engine
➢ Warning light in switch flashes twice
➢ Repeat to cancel
➢ Warning light in switch flashes three times
➢ Normal operation thereafter

Hope this helpful - please try it out!

Thanks. I didn't get a separate manual as I did with my L322. Will print that and try it out. Thanks again. That's what a forum is all about. Great community. Thumbs Up

Cheers KeithG934.

The info suggests that the provided scissors Jack is used on the mounting parts of the steps when they are stowed and locked away (ie turned off). Not sure if I would want to do that......would prefer the trolley under chassis!

@KeithG934. I have tried the procedure to lock the steps in or out but the button doesn't do anything, no flashing light, no operation of the steps, nothing. Strange.
