Help Required! Keys locked in car!

Hi all
Strange one this, and one I thought wasn't possible!
My wife is currently in Wales in her V8 vogue and has managed to lock her keys in the car.
The key is in her handbag and she opened the boot by pushing the boot opener and all was ok.
She put all her stuff in the boot along with her handbag and pressed the boot close button and the boot closed.
She went to open the drivers door and it's locked and when she tried to open the boot, that too is locked!
I didn't think it was possible for the car to lock with the key in the car!

I'm in the midlands so called LR assist which apparently is now handled by the AA.
They want us to sign to absolve them of blame for any damage if they have to force entry. Does this sound right as surely the car shouldn't be able to lock with the key in and it should be a warranty issue...
The landrover dealers are closed now, so I don't know who to ask for advice as to whether this should have happened or not.
Any help greatly received as she's stuck down there with 3 kids and her purse, phone etc are in her handbag in the boot!
Cheers

Wow that's not good, if it were me i would find a brick and be in charge of the damage if it were me rather than the AA!!

Right i have just checked by locking my car, opening the boot by key. Throwing my keys in the boot and then pushing boot close button on boot. I then put my spare keys in the house and tried to open and the boot opened and the doors unlocked.

Silly question but has she tried all doors and boot, as my doors unlocked also?

I would get back on to LR tech before you let the knobs in yellow loose on it. Do you not have an out of hours for your dealer?

I closed the boot with my keys inside recently and as should be expected it opened again as it could detect the key. However, it might be that the key is too far into the car. But can't you courier the spare key rather than let the AA/LR Assist force an entry?

Worst case you could try a dealer in a different time zone thats still open (try the states, there must be a trick) and ask to speak to a tech. I am sure they will help.

Good luck Tim

You won't believe this!
She just called me from her mobile, so at least she's in the car!
The AA bloke put some electronic device in through the window frame and managed to get the ignition on in the car. He then used the device to open the rear window and managed to shove my wife into the car through the back window.
Luckily the parcel shelf is at home, so she was able to reach over for her handbag and get the key.
The interesting thing is that he told her that anything metallic in her handbag with the key would stop the key working!
She had just bought a hot pastie for one of the kids and it was in a metallic wrapper, which apparently was effecting the key!
He said mobile phones also cause the same problem!
Apparently it only happens to women as blokes normally carry the key in their pocket!
He said it happens a lot on Landrovers and also Jags.
I've just got this image in my mind of him shoving her through the back window, priceless!
Anyway, crisis over! 2017 Range Rover SDV8 Vogue SE

Interesting thing is that I didn't realise that LR now subbed all the call outs to the AA.
Do the official LR assist guys not exist any more then? Last time we called them when she had a Disco about 5 years ago, and it was an official LR assist guy who came out in a sign written Discovery. 2017 Range Rover SDV8 Vogue SE

Not much comfort but this is in the manual (online version). But who reads this? I remembered reading it in my owners manual when I first had an L405. Haven't checked the current manual because it's in the car and it's raining and I'm too lazy!

My wife had the same issue. She had just put the dog in the boot in her pen and closed the boot. Went to the driver's door and pulled the handle expecting it to open as usual but it never sensed the key. Turned out she laid the key In the boot before closing.

AA man came out and used a small air jack to open a gap in the top of the door and he was in within 2 mins of arriving. Says it's very commonly done and he has to do this once a week for Jags and LR's. Current Fleet;

2 disturbing issues here, in an £80k + product. if there is a known fault it should be rectified. Secondly how can you be able to open a window so easily. letters not necessarily in the right order

Not certain this can be classed as a known fault. The laws of physics and RF (radio frequency) are pretty much fixed. Put a transmitter (key) next to a bigger transmitter (smartphone) or in a metal box (think microwave containing all that potentially hazardous radiation (2.4GHz not nuclear)) and the end result is key not detected. Legislation controls how powerful the transmitter is and with a smart key an increased range that will come from increased power means that your car could be opened while you out of sight. Catch 22.

Would be interesting to hear if it is only JLR or other users of the keyless entry are affected too. (They probably all buy from the same suppliers).

Different technology may be needed.

Could you not use that old trick where you are at home, get the spare remote key and press the unlock button next to your mobile and someone next to the locked car receives the signal on their mobile and it unlocks the door for you? Or is it an old wives tale? I genuinely can't remember if it was proven or not.

May be rubbish, have just read...
