United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Stornoway Grey

To my otherhalfs annoyance, I dismantled 1 of the spare headlights in my lounge while watching Corrie lol I am seriously considering doing the other headlight as well, and may even have them painted before the weekend. The only bits I am not going to be able to get done before the weekend will be the bits that cover the headlight wiper motors as I plan on painting them silver, which will mean lots of layers of lacquer like I did on the grill to give it extra protection given how aero dynamically challenged my car is lol

I found out in more details while my job lot of spares was the price it was, people, please DON'T use bathroom sealant to stick LED strips inside the lights cases and then add pointless bits of wire to hold it in as well as the glue. Little moan over. It has created a minor opportunity for me. I was hoping to sell the original lights on as standard, but now having to swap parts over. So both sets are going to be customised and 1 set sold on.

2 of the 3 spare lights I have are now stripped down, the other spare light that isn't stripped yet is in the same condition internally as this one. Will play with it after I have finished and fitted these lights.

I have started on the headlight inserts, I hope to have them primed by the end of the day as well as the trims that cover the headlight wiper motors.

I managed to get 2 coats of paint on, and I was pushing it for time in the evening, luckily I ran out of paint before making a dumb decision as I think I would have probably put another layer of paint on to try and finish the job completely. So tomorrow will be the final day of painting the lights.

In total, 3 coats of primer, and will finish with 3 coats of paint.

Very happy with the result. Looking forward to nasty job of getting them fitted.

Despite the nerve damage, and after a lot of fighting through the pain, I managed to get 1 headlight completed, but annoyingly the chrome paint and the tiger seal hasn't arrived yet. And I need to salvage a part off my original passenger side headlight to be able to complete that one.

I have bought some small but good quality mole grips, and hope to be able to get the drivers headlight off myself, but Saturday is mostly going to be taken up with helping my next door neighbour fit parking sensors to her motorhome.

I finally got round to sealing the sidelight units back together. Not bad for someone with nerve damage in my hands and tremors lol

Hoping to start painting the headlight wiper motor covers in a little while too.

I managed to get 3 coats of the chrome effect paint. Not so chromy, but nice and bright. Not sure weather to add lacquer tomorrow or not.

This was the 1st wet coat.

This was taken after the 3rd and final coat.

Friday is a no working on cars day sadly. But Saturday I will be back at it.

It's official, I Censored up Shocked Big Cry Laughing .  I didn't bother looking online for how to apply chrome effect paint, assuming it would be the same as painting normally, I am such an idiot lol.  So tomorrow, I am going to find the time and do it right lol.  Glad these bits aren't needed urgently so have some time to practice, but do like learning new things. I now need to sand some of the paint off to key the surface, and paint the trims gloss black, let the paint cure for a few days, then paint on the chrome, Looks like I am going to be mounting a patio heater to something so I can speed the process up lol.  All good fun though.  Still plan on fitting the lights on Saturday, as Sunday is supposed to be really bad weather again.
Glad I bought 2 tins of the chrome effect paint, but in hind site, should have bought 3 as I have already used 1 200ml can just doing these 2 bits.

The weather forecasters can't seem to make there minds up lol. But corrected my mistake. I even managed to make a 2nd screw up. When I thought the paint was dry after using the heat gun, I touched the paint and it was wet. So had to to build the paint up again, 3 coats of black went on, then 11 coats of chrome effect on the 1 that I didn't mess up and 14 or 15 on the one I did to make the muck up less obvious lol. That will teach me to rush the last few coats. But the chrome effect looks much much shinier. The final coat was left to dry totally naturally and tomorrow the chrome will be buffed. Hoping to get stuck in tomorrow and get it all fitted. I am going to remove the wiper arms and paint them gloss black.

Because I had to rush correct the mistake, a few run marks appeared, but it will be hidden once fitted.

Front end transformation almost done, despite the on and off rain, I managed to get it all fitted and working apart from the wiper arms for the headlights which are in the back garden being painted.

Wiper arms for the headlights being primed and first 2 thin coats of paint.

Can't do anything more today as daylight has gone, which is really annoying as yet again, I have more motivation to get things done than ever, and being forced to stop.

I also need to pop out to get more stuff for painting the parts tomorrow.

I tried to rescue the old wiper blades as well as they hadn't split but the green mold on them won't shift, so am having to buy a new pair or wipers, I will remove the blades and fit them to the painted ones.

Now considering what to do about the panel on the bonnet. But can't do anymore work in the way of painting after the wiper arms as the car is due to do into the garage next week in theory if they have remembered to book it in.

I was starting to consider getting rid of this Range Rover and buying another one, but now I have been able to get the modifications done that I want and the upgrades, all thoughts of selling have gone.

I can't believe my car has gone from this:

To this:

Plans for further modifications / upgrades are:

Paint bonnet panel.
Paint, replace or cover the trim that is at the bottom of the top half of the tailgates.
Replace all lettering for Chrome lettering.
Fit chrome effect door handle covers.
Fit all the LED interior lights.
Fit LED sidelights.
Upgrade the stereo.
Paint and fit the roof spoiler. (Probably get done professionally).
Fit the LED bumper lights.
Fit a black and silver Land Rover badge to the front grill.

Outstanding faults and repairs.

1 height sensor. (Booked in to be done)
1 rear bush. (Booked in to be done).
Replace the exhaust.
Get the gearbox overhauled.
Fit new oil cooler and associated pipes.
Get a fully working remote key.
Sort out whatever fault is stopping it from going into full off road height mode.
Replace the bulb on my clocks bottom display 1 of the bulbs has blown.
Replace the pipe that goes from the air flow meter to the engine.
Replace the air filter box.
Get the headlight alignment checked.
Replace the parking sensor loom on the rear.
Replace the front drivers and passengers seats.
Replace the 3rd brakelight.
Replace the left reverse light and drill out the old screw.
Find out what is rattling like stones are going round in a drum when I reverse or drive forwards.
Get the aircon serviced and re-gassed.
Replace front pads and discs soon as in my opinion they are starting to get low.
Replace the timing chain and guides etc...

That list looks scary lol.

Just got the final wet sand to do now before I can add lacquer, but the weather has gone to pot and has turned colder and keeps raining, so I have stopped. But it is all black now.
