United States 2014 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Causeway Grey
Suspension - loud "pfffft". Now no suspension/no f

Was pulling out of Starbucks and heard a pretty loud "puffff". Had the radio on so couldnt tell exactly where it came from. Sounded like under dash though. Anyway I'm on bump stops now/suspension fault/max speed of 30. When I look at my 4x4 screen I see flashing red dashes above the tires. These flashing red dashes rotate to different tires (doesn't just stay on one). I went to advance auto and plugged in odbII scan tool and it said "no codes found". I'm stumped. Any ideas? Blown airbag? Why would the entire truck be on bump stops for 1 blown bag? And why no error code?

It's single digits here so I can't really get under the truck to play with it.

If I put it in off-road mode and drive it and it comes off the bump stops and raises quite a bit (front and back) on the driver side but it noticeable the passenger side (front and rear) does not come up...the vehicle is leaning. I heard another pufffffff coming from under the dash when I put in off-road mode and tried to raise it.

Occasionally hearing a pumping noise and a bike tire pumper as I'm driving and I'm getting fault "suspension will lift when system cools" 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

The clue is in the last sentence, you have a major leak somewhere, the poor little compressor can't keep up and switches off because it's too hot.. don't keep playing with it, that will just knacker the compressor, get it looked at and the leak found... Thumbs Up Pete

It seems to want to raise itself though. I don't know how to keep it from attempting it. It only seems to stop once I get the suspension fault but that's after a while of driving it. Each time I get in/start it, it tries to raise etc.

This is one reason I was hesitant getting into a Range because of the air suspension. I'm assuming this is going to cost a pretty penny and I have to get both sides replaced i.e. left and right at the same time. 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

Air bags are servicable items like shock absorbers and springs, they aren't that much these days, and yes, front ones you have to change in pairs as they come with the shocks... rears are OK to do singly..

Having said that, you have Arnotts over there and they do various different options for new bags...

They are over here as well now but they doubled their prices for the UK and refuse to sell them from the USA direct anymore so on second thoughts don't give them your business... Pete

Yep, they are still doing it... front strut in the USA £211 same item in UK £374... not quite double but still a rip off...

http://www.island-4x4.co.uk/ are usually the cheapest in the UK and they do deliver over there, if you get theirs get the Delphi (original equipment) ones not the slightly cheaper Dunlops which don't last long... Pete

I'm Not getting a specific code...How would I know for sure which one it is without taking to dealer. Each corner acts slightly different depending on the input mode.

Are the arnot the OEM bags in the US? Is there a better option? Would it be cheaper for me to order them/would the dealer up charge?

Is this a DIY job for a average person and basic tools? Do you need some sort of compressor to put the new ones in etc? 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

No codes show, the system isn't that clever, get it as high as you can, turn engine off, and listen outside to the four corners, if you can't hear anything then it's out with the soapy water in a spray bottle....

Arnotts have never been OEM...

Front struts are easy to fit, no special tools required, two big bolts at the bottom, three at the top... 1hour max per side...

Rears are even easier, just a clip and a nut....

Download rave from the wiki and it tells you how...

I wouldn't go to a dealer, an independent should be fine, or do it yourself....

If you have the EAS lockout light on the dash on, the system will need resetting with a plug in tool, if it's not you should be alright... Pete

We'll definitely the front. The rear is holding steady.

Any chance it could also be a faulty strut? Or definitely just the bags? Looks like I can't get just the bags for the front (only the rears you can get just the bags). So I have to buy the entire strut/bag assembly for both sides for the front? They are like $600 each. Sad 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

Unlikely to be faulty strut, that wouldn't put you on the bump stops (think strut=shock absorber, airbag=coilspring)

If they weren't any good Pete wouldn't have suggested them, if you read his posts he favors Delphi over Dunlop, but recommends Arnots'. I have the Dunlop fitted to mine, they work, but I'm not expecting them to last.....

In your questions you ask if it could be a faulty Strut... Yes, but it is part of the Air Bag, they are the inflatable equivalent of a MacPhersons' strut, and while it is possible to change just the air bag, for reasons of sanity and reliability it is not recommended, and if the rubber air bag has failed then the damper part of the strut will not be far behind Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I would need to have arnot struts though correct? You cant just replace the bags on OE Delphi front struts? If I can I would go that route. Everywhere I've looked so far just sells the strut with the bag for the fronts. 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC
