TDV6 Oil Service

Ok so my car is 4 months old and done just over 5k miles, on Monday I got a notification on the dash a service was due in 1900 miles, well this morning it's says it's due now! My dealer told me services are due at 16k or every 12 months, no mention of variable oil services. Anyone else experienced having to have an oil service I between regular services? I guess the cat has a condition based service indicator, if so why bother with the fixed intervals?

I'm sure you won't be paying either way but suspect it's just not been set up right. Mine is still showing that it needs a service on incontrol even though it had a service last week, seems that the dealer forgot to set the thing up and it means another trip to a dealer just to reset it. Big Cry

Given the number of failures on the TDV6, it sounds like you're doing the right thing - take it straight in & let them sort it out - you can't afford to ignore any warning as it gives them warranty wiggle room......

I experienced the same problem. There was no need for a service before 12 months or 16,000 miles whichever came first. The Incontrol app also told me I needed a service. The dealer reset the service indicator when I booked it in because of the faulty message. I have just had a first service at 15,700 miles. I think the software may have been upgraded to fix this error.

Not aware of failures on 2016 TDV6. Can you enlighten me?

I didn't specifically say issues with the 2016 TDV6 - but you know the thread

I guess it depends on your level of confidence that JLR have actually changed anything and if so, what they have changes will definitely fix the problem......

But in that thread the OP says in a post dated 6 July 2016 that the problem was a known one that affected a wide VIN range up to early 2015.
So when the OP in this thread said he had a problem with his service indicator on a 2016 and you commented, I assumed there was more to the issue than the thread you quoted.

Dealer did an oil service under warranty citing that that it was a bit early. No issues with the sensor but they claimed that DPF regeneration can lead to oil degeneration.

Copied from the AA site on active regeneration

Quote:
When the soot loading in the filter reaches a set limit (about 45%) the vehicle's ECU will initiate post combustion fuel injection to increase the exhaust temperature and trigger regeneration. If the journey is too short while the regeneration is in progress, it may not complete and the warning light will come on to show that the filter is partially blocked.

It should be possible to complete a regeneration cycle and clear the warning light by driving for 10 minutes or so at speeds greater than 40mph.

If the regeneration is unsuccessful due to an insufficient driving cycle the extra fuel injected into the cylinders will not burn and will drain into the sump. As a result, oil quality will deteriorate and the level will rise. Most DPF equipped engines will have an oil quality/viscosity sensor but it is important that you check that the oil level does not increase above the maximum level on the dipstick as diesel engines can run on their own oil if the level is excessive – often to the point of destruction

Interesting to note that I have never had a DPF warning on the car before, I guess the car does also not warn you of the oil level rising also. My car does a lot of short journeys in the week so I guess this is the cause of the partial regeneration and the oil break down. 2021 L405 Vogue D300

Diesels & short journeys don't seem to mix well - a good italian tune up every once in a while should help - discussed a bit on this thread Thumbs Up

*not specifically related to a 2016 TDV6 Whistle
