Wet front passenger side carpet - not sunroof leak

Not been my week for finding soggy bits - see my other post for water in the wheel well and amp area.

This ones slightly different. The front passenger side carpet is soaked through and the wetness feels slightly sticky and greasy to the touch. It's not related to the Sunroof drain as that is clear and free flowing. It's not coming through the bulkhead and windscreen cowl area as the slant in the footwell is completely dry, only the base of the footwell is wet. Upon taking off
the right hand side footwell trim (next to the glovebox) I've found the source of the leak - I'm assuming it's the O rings on the heater matrix pipes which have perished:

Can the O ring(s) be changed without taking the whole heater matrix and pipes out (which in itself involves hours of taking almost the whole front dash apart). I'm hoping someone's got a method of doing it with the pipes almost in the same position.

The greasiness you mention is typical for coolant, so yeah, I would agree with the thought that its the heater matrix.

On the old P38 range rover, you could change the o-rings with the matrix in situ IIRC. By the looks of that picture, it does appear that there is some space for the pipe to move outwards once you undo the clamp.

There is only one way to find out really! undo the clamp and pull it outwards! (after you have drained the system of course!)

Also might be worth checking that the pipes have some wiggle room ... are they clamped anywhere else, i.e. where they pass through the bulkhead or attached in the engine bay side. Loosening those areas might give you more play in the pipe. V8 or else ...

I should imagine you can do insitu I had the trim off last week and if you disconnect pipes in the engine bay that should give you enough room Thumbs Up good luck
