Question about the 5.0 SC

Hi guys,

My first post, I was re-directed here due to this engine also being fitted to the FFRR.

While I was there, the salesperson showed me a 2012 RRS S/C, which according to the PO had 'overheated'. Turns out the PO had been driving 'spiritedly' up one of our mountain passes just outside of town and the temperature gauge shot up in the red and the car went into limp mode, so he sold it to them.

However, when they opened the engine, they could not see any signs of overheating. They are doing a complete overhaul, and the mechanic said the ony issue they saw was the head gasket, which they have replaced. I saw the engine in pieces, and everything looks nice and clean, no signs of any problems visually.

They are offering me the vehicle (which is spotless inside) for 500k, and it has 120,000km on the clock, although with the engine overhaul, the engine mileage will be different.

I've never heard of an S/C overheating, but is this a common issue?

What do you guys think, is this good deal? If I convince them to throw in a 2-yr warranty, would that be assurance enough?

Thanks

Might be better to ask on the RRS forum http://www.rrsport.co.uk

I did, they told me to ask here as well Smile

I'm interested in the reliability of the 5.0 SC and whether it is prone to overheating, and what reliability issues I can expect after an overhaul?

Thanks Rolling with laughter

I've had 2 of the 5.0 S/C cars and in terms of engine reliability both were fine. I would have another at the drop of a hat to be honest, a very solid and reliable engine.

The predecessor, which is very similar, i.e. based on the AJV8 block I also had a number of in Jaguars, both the 4.0 and the 4.2. Neither gave any issues with the engine.

As for an overheated one, as long as it comes with a warranty I would be fine if the repairs were done properly.
