Digital TV upgrade

Hi All,

Has anyone successfully upgraded to a digital tv module using an av input adaptor lead on a 2003 Vogue FFRR?
If so how did you go about it?

I have seen leads on ebay for £35 to permit AV input, anyone had any success?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Sean.

Who's our resident expert with Digital TV upgrades? We could do with a WiKi article on it...

I think Daveo knows pretty much everything there is to know about the older non touchscreen infotainment system. It might be worth dropping him a PM. On the 05 onwards touchscreen models I think it is a little easier to do as it's just a straight box swap for the hybrid tuner. Wiggs has been selling the D4/10MY FFRR box on here for a while (got mine for £300) it's slightly smaller than the hybrid tuner fitted to the 07 - 09MY cars but is fully compatible but it just has one unused connection. It took me about 20 mins to fit as you need to remove the infotainment rack from the boot to access it, but it's not much work at all.

2002 to 2005 FFRR's with BMW wiring require just a box swap too! Just eBay "BMW Hybrid TV" and make sure its suitable for E39, E43 E53 models with ibus. Ther is one on there now currently at £200. It wont sell for that though! Its a staright swap, no recoding, extra wiring or anything!

Had mine for nearly 3 years and maybe when the digital signal is cranked up on the south coast it might be worth it but it does still have the analogue tuner so you get the best of both worlds!

Thanks Ajay.

Only one I have seen have been £4-500 and was looking for a cheaper option, I guess you pay for OEM integration!

You could use a 12v freeview box and plug it in via the S-Vid but the sound would be mono and the picture quality not great. Then you'd need the remote for that kicking around somewhere.

Or you could do it propperly with the BMW Hybrid tuner that will integrate propperly with the vehicle systems.
