Front Lower Control Arms - Complete replacement or bushings?

I just had the 08 range in for an inspection and was told the front lower control arms need to be replaced. It's a $1250 job according to the mechanic who owned a discovery himself and had the same issues.

I'm just wondering is it possible to swap the bushings only if the arms show no signs of damage, no cracking etc. or just replace the lot - lower control arms, bushings, ball joints etc.

Thanks in advance

OEM quality, Delphi, are under £50 each. If the ball joint has gone as well (and I bet it hasn't as they don't have to move a lot like track rod ball joints so last for years) are about £30...

Takes 3 hours with a slow mechanic who hasn't done the job before...

£160 parts
£180 Labour

£340 or $540AUD...

Find another garage... or do them yourself, details in the WIKI IIRC... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

You can change the bushes but if you are paying somone to do the job it will probably cost more, they are a right PITA to get out... Pete

Cheers Haylands

I've found on fleabay they sell both the lower wishbone track control arms $405 AUD shipped and then there's also the lower suspension track control arm for $140 AUD shipped. I found in an earlier post someone had replaced their lower suspension track control arms - I'm hoping that's the case for myself. What I've noticed is an audible metal clunk when I go over large bumps, driveway entrances or the misses hits the concrete block when parking.

Only just got checked yesterday and didn't have a chance to take it to another garage and they're closed today since it's Sunday. He just told the wife there was a lot of play in the front lower control arms
