My Blue L322

This thread has been a long time in the making, so better get it started!

In around May 2016, I was looking at 'cheap' L322's, while I stumbled across mine, up in Birmingham it had been sat around for 6 months, needing new rear brakes and a battery. Got the car recovered to mine, and got to work.

Unfortunately, the back plates for the rear hub were completely knackered, and there was no way on earth I was going to get the hub nut off, so I set about another way of replacing the back plate:

My father got the genuine back plates, that fortunately came with the sale of the car and modified so I could fit them in two pieces and then just bolt together, to be honest it worked a treat.

I replaced the back brakes, and changed the battery, got myself a iCarsoft i930 to reset the suspension after some clown had unplugged the compressor in the boot, and she sailed straight through an MOT! Couldn't believe it, car only cost me £2400, and I spent about £250 on the battery, diagnostic reader and rear brakes discs and pads!

All had been going well, and haven't got round to doing anything else yet, until one day I got back to the yard at work to find the front sitting on the bump stops Sad Censored

Set about finding the problem out (this was in September 2016) and it appears the height sensor bolt holding the sensor to the suspension arm had rusted away, luckily I cable tied it up and all was good, for about two weeks.

Then I had a suspension fault come up, and the car went into full disco mode, lights flashing the lot. Narrowed it down to the drivers side front airbag leaking, apparent from the hissing.

Replaced the airbag for the shiny new Delphi part two days ago (17 October 2016)

Unfortunately, that wasn't the end. I forgot to order the new bolts from the strut to the hub, so test fitted it back together, and pressed, the drivers side raised straight away and held there. Got all excited, until I noticed it the other side went down, went round to find that side was leaking as well. Going to order the new one today or tomorrow for the passenger side. Serves me right really for thinking I could get away with only replacing one, but at least I know they have both been done at the same time.

That's all for now, will update this thread as new things are done to the vehicle!

Happy motoring Smile

Great colour, that Blue, and I do like the tube style side runners.

I to had a front strut air bag blow and was told to replace both at the same time. Which I did and have no regrets.

No further progress, but received the new drop links today Smile

Yesterday finally ordered the passenger side Delphi strut, nuts and bolts to attach them to the hubs and two of the paper gaskets that are meant to go in the top Smile

Providing Island 4 x 4 get their Censored in gear and dispatch the order tomorrow, hopefully it will come Friday and have a day off so hoping I can get it back on the road.

Exactly that, I should start a game where people pay £5 to guess what will go wrong next, and the winner gets the remaining amount once I've changed it Rolling with laughter

Haven't posted anything in here in a while.

Recently have had a groaning noise when I turn left at low speed, or stopped. I believe I diagnosed the problem last night as a knackered ball joint on the N/S lower suspension arm.

Have the new one here today ready to fit tonight, along with the OEM height sensor that I bought two months ago but couldn't be bothered to fix. Fingers crossed the nut from the old one will fit the new sensor, as they don't come with that.

Wouldn't it be much easier for these companies to provide associated fitting parts when selling an item, it's a nightmare to finally get an item in the post and then realise there's a few more things you need to order, which cost pennies and you pay ten times that to get them shipped to you!!

Squeaking brakes at the front will be stripped down later also, hopefully a bit of copper grease will knock that problem on the head, with the small possibility I might be able to stop the 'bonk' noise when braking at low speed, and accelerating again, not sure what part of me thinks it is the brake pads but doesn't seem to happen when at speed and braking!!

Post to follow later...

All done on the passenger side lower arm and problem fixed. No longer have a cable tied height sensor, new one is working a treat!

Happy for now, until I tackle the other side next week!!

Replaced the drivers side lower arm yesterday, took me 4 bloody hours to get the old one off, 20 minutes to get the new one on!

Managed to bend the bolt so got a new one from advanced factors today, about to change it and put the new one in.

Also about to change the cranked lower arm, had a spare for a few months and I can see the bush is Censored , defo on drivers side!!

Also got the nuts bolts and rear toe tracking arms to tackle if I get time, tomorrow if not Smile

She's done it, completed a 1000 miles holiday to Germany and back, didn't skip a beat!

Showing signs of the gear box / torque converter wearing out now Sad

Happy picture near brünnchen corner of the Nürburgring in the snow!

How many miles has she done in total? I'm assuming well over 100k if the torque converter is starting to go, although I realise that gearboxes are a weak point on these beasts... 2009 Vogue TDV8 Nara Bronze
